i think by colt, probably means of the brand you find in walmart, the springer kinds, or the crap AEG version
now once you get all the rifle done, you will be needing gear
overall what is your budget?
-First of all get a good pair of boots, surplus or brand new but not cheap ones, trust the high end companies though, your choice.
-Olive Drab for BDU
-OD tactical vest, any thing but cheap vest like from NC stars or UTG vest, or plate carriers for lots of MOLLE re-estate

If you're limited to $500 at startup, you may want to focus on the essentials and then gradually add more stuff as you get more funds.
You can get out to many games with just some basic pieces of kit:
1. Good boots
2. Good eye protection - You could start off with a cheap paintball mask, or go for a decent pair of ballistic goggles if you prefer them. Just avoid mesh masks and other cheap knockoffs.
3. A decent starter gun (for an M4 platform,a King Arms, Classic Army or G&P would be suggested the most), plus some mid-capacity or high-capacity magazines
4. A decent battery and charger - If you are planning on using a lithium polymer (lipo) battery, a good charger is absolutely essential. Lipos are small but hold a lot of charge. They require a bit more care than regular NiCd or NiMH batteries. A decent charger will be able to adjust charge-rates and such to suit different batteries.
5. BB's

This is pretty much the minimum you need to start. Many people start off attending their first game with a gun, one hi-cap 500rnd magazine, goggles and boots. Wear comfortable pants, a tshirt and any kind of gloves and you're all set.
This is a good idea because when you meet a group of airsofters and see the different kinds of gear everyone is rocking, it'll help you get a much better idea of what you want to do. You'll also get to touch and feel different guns and see which appeal to you. You'll almost certainly want a side-arm after your first game. Most pistols are gas-powered and its a good way to introduce yourself to gas-powered guns.

Finally I got a COLT AEG M4A1 licensed, King Arms Full metal. I am happy with thepurchase and price and performance. Shoots from 10..15 meters (35 feets) on semiauto in a circle of 5 cm diameter with no error margins.
I am really impressed. I guess I have to downsize the spring (I dont know what it means yet, but youtube is big...) because the seller website sais.

just means you need to change the spring to a weaker one. different springs are different strengths. stronger springs shoot further however many of them do not condone to the rules of the fields out there.
Many of the fields require 400 and below or even 350 for CQB areas. just bring it to a gun doc and get it downgraded a new spring will cost u less than 10 dollars.

also without upgrading other parts of your gearbox and running a very strong spring will break parts easier. right now all they do to get it across the border with CBSA standards is just a strong spring shoved inside a stock gun that when fired a few times will pass the testing.

You may not want to try a spring swap by yourself if you're new to AEG's. Its doable but will require a lot of time and patience. I'd suggest you find a gun-doc on the forums here who can do it for you.
You won't be able to attend most games with a gun shooting over 430fps. Outdoor games are usually around 400, indoor ones are 350. There are exceptions but such games are rare.
Also keep in mind that the 400/350 fps is just an upper limit. High fps does not make an accurate gun. Lots of Tokyo Marui guns shoot ~280fps but are still ridiculously accurate. You probably won't notice a drop in accuracy by going from 430 to 390 fps. You will however notice an increase by adding things like a good hopup (the piece that provides the backspin on a BB...for longer flight) and tightbore barrel. As you use your gun (and inevitably break stuff due to natural wear), be sure to upgrade to quality parts.

Start with an AEG before you move into GBBRs. VFC, KWA produces amazing AEGs. Sometimes, you have to put out cash for quality so you don't end up with a quantity of garbage.

Once you have your AEG, Get 5 mid-capacity magazines. MAG brand produces amazing mid-cap mags at a relatively low price.

Now that you have your magazines you definitely need somewhere to put your mags inside. You need gear. This is completely up to the operator and the operation. There is no best loud out. Just plan it, and try it before you buy it.

Going back, the AEG provides a reliable back up to your GBBR (if you decide to purchase) if it fails during game. If you're not up to afford a KWA or VFC, King arms makes a great full metal m4 with good internals at a reasonable price.

Bought, Colt M4 AEG Full metal. Already downgraded the spring to M95. It had a M140 or so,
It was shooting with 450-480fps with .2gram bb's. I was close to killed the gear but finally I got
it right. Verry happy with it. Impressed with the precission of it from 30-50 ft or so.

Either change the hop up unit and rubber or try adjusting it you should be accurate out to 150ft or so also try some heavyer bb's. .25 or. .28

Hop up.. Hmm. If I open it again I leave more scratches. I will look into on the weekend when I have more time. The forst 95M spring change was a real 4 hours deal. A second time I did it to 105M in about 1 hour by:
I enalged one of the gearbox back rectagular openings towards end, and I pulled th spring tru there. Gearbox looks kind of ugly but still firm. I was also suprised that the gearbox had metal shims and metal busssings. Pretty good kingarms gear.

I also bought for 60$ a second gear-box, just in case I screw the original one, as well metal and shimmed from airsoftdepot.
That one was a hassle to adapt because the wiring came out on the back of the handler, and I had to redirect them to the
front. Finally I got the job done.
