Budget Optics
Hello ASC,
Due to budgetary concerns, it will be many years before I have the money to purchase a RS EOTech or AimPoint; however I am still interested in getting a red-dot for my gun. I have been looking at these: http://www.basspro.com/Pursuit-Illum...0829053423192/ I am asking for your opinion on this brand, as well as style of red-dot. Who's used them, and are they superior to the china-clones of the RS military optics? My theory is: since they are designed for hunting, they should be able to hold a zero (as long as you don't switch reticles), as well as having a clear reticle in daylight, compared to the China clones. Am I correct in thinking this? Thanks for your input. |
If you can afford this Amazon.com: Vortex® StrikeFire Red Dot Rifle Scope(Suitable for AR-15): Sports & Outdoors
You will not regret it. |
I have not used that particular brand of that sight, but I have used that style and they area good sight for CQB or short range shooting. My only problem is they are easy to have shot out on you, no one makes a kill flash lense protector for them yet that I have found. If your looking for a decent reddot Bushnel has a version of the Aimpoint T-1 which I currently use on my GBBRs and its great it uses any of the T-1 mounts. Its a little more then that sight you posted $99 if you look hard. But it has after market kill flashes/lense protectors available.

i find that reflex sights is not well protected from snapping
you should invest in a tasco red dot tube sight, for the same price range, what exactly is your budget? |
My budget is trying to find something effective for cheap. Prefferably around the $50 mark. I have other parts I would like to purchase before the next big game I have to go to.
Additionally; I an putting this on my AK gastube rail. That being said, size and weight are a concern of mine. |
any reflex sight will serve you well for that price. something like this: http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...roducts_id=545
bright enough to use outside and simple. |

I highly recommend this: http://www.airsoftstore.ca/index.php...roducts_id=197
I have used both and the reflex has too much glare outdoors. |
I use a Tasco 30mm tube-style RDS. Works great, on GBBRs, for over a year now.
50$ at Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/pr...=1369164330432 It's heavier than most open-type sights, but a LOT more protected. It got hit so many times and still hold zero and works perfectly. 11 levels, I usualy put it on 4 for indoors and 8-11 outdoors/sunny. |

I'm looking for a good SVD scope. My friend gave me his hold one. But the lock doesn't move up when you close the handle on it. And for the life of me when the height and side to side is adjusted all the way to the right spots so it should be zeroed. It's still high and to the right. Can't change the knobs on them further. Too zero them out.

However; if your gun is still shooting too high and to the right, I have a question for you: Do your BBs "hook" to the right a little? Or are they travelling in a straight line, just to the right. Either way, your houpup may be misaligned, as well as set too high. Scopes are only designed for so much play with a gun. The idea is that the gun you're shooting still shoots straight. |
Try this primary arms one, its a clone of the Aimpoint, and handled the recoil of my cousin's Tavor and kept it's zero, so it should be just fine for airsoft.

Oh ok, then maybe their aimpoint micro t1 clone might be more of your thing then
Here's the Link for it: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_...se_p/md-07.htm |
Yes... Excellent! Though I think I'm gonna try the "reflex" style of sights first. See if I like them.
|
i ran a tasco red dot for a little while, didnt care for it. the main issue with big sights is they clog up your line of fire.... i only use iron sights now, but have been tempted by those micro sights
|
Aimpoint Ms2 is too big as you said so I would second the aimpoint T1 micro. $60 on airsoftdepot.ca
|
The only thing I don't like my primary arms micro t1 for is the battery life is not that great, but for a $100 real steel optic with mount I'm not gonna whine.
Edit: By the way, mine was mounted on a sks for a while before it went on my airsoft gun so they are definitely very durable. |
I ordered this:
http://www.basspro.com/Pursuit-Illum...0829053423192/ So I'll probably review it and let you guys know what I think. |
Looks good, hopefully it works and performs good for you.
|
Prepare to buy a shield as well. My reflex got shot out, didn't last one game.
|
Just a question about optics/scopes. Any legal issues importing them?
|
No, unless it's a real firearm optic coming up from the US that costs over I believe it's a hundred bucks. Then you just have to do the export permit process with the US. But optics from anywhere else isn't an issue.
|
Dang :/ Saw a RS SVD I wanted but it's shipped from the us and about 279. How does one go about doing the export permit process?
|
I'm not sure my permit crap was done for me by brownells and irunguns, it's a pain in the ass to do it as a private citizen and I'm not sure how you would go about it. Stupid US ITAR laws....
Edit: You might want to read through this it might help you out http://www.gdcanada.com/documents/Ge...Suppliers1.pdf Also if it's shipped from a dealer in the states and not a private sale, the dealer might be willing to help you out if you ask. |
Okay... so I'm NOT getting that reflex sight after all.
Apparently, due to restrictions, they couldn't ship it to Canada. Jerks! |
Ah that sucks you got stuck with the shitty ITAR laws
|
Apparently! Whatever. I'll go see what Sail has on their shelves.
|
I have a A.C.M aimpoint clone and I have to say for the price its great changine the sensitivity works great in and out mutliple reticles and a green setting for night ops make it a solid sight
|
many sights (reflex/aimpoint clones) are too bright even at minimum levels to be used in the dark. just so you know..
