What is this cape thing?

I was recently playing Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeros, and in that game, you have to infiltrate a "black site" and the guards seem to be wearing a kind of hooded cape thing. Anyone able to identify what this is?
Would like one possibly later on, looks pretty neat, may use one eventually for a airsoft outfit.

I have tried finding a better picture, but the guards don't seem to like to have their picture taken.

lurkingknight January 8th, 2015 15:32

some sci fi cape thing?

It's metal gear... there's more into making designs look cool than functional, as with most video games.

Cobrajr122 January 8th, 2015 15:39

just looks like a poncho

Danke January 8th, 2015 15:44

Poncho and poncho liner are all you need.

ThunderCactus January 8th, 2015 19:07

Poncho, but they're crap for airsoft.
Since any of your gear hit counts as a hit, they pretty much triple your surface area for getting shot. They also aren't actually waterproof.
You're better off with a softshell.

OGRE January 8th, 2015 20:04

A softshell isn't waterproof either, you'd want a hard shell for waterproof!

ThunderCactus January 8th, 2015 21:15

You don't want waterproof lol

RaisinBran January 8th, 2015 21:28

Isn't that just a poncho for the rain?

Drake January 8th, 2015 21:38

I lol'd

Dutch_McBain January 8th, 2015 22:43

msg 5 is set in 1973 ... what is futuristic in that????

GMoney January 8th, 2015 23:01

I was even just thinking of possibly for my work backpack, just incase I get stuck in rain, as I'll be working outside alot. Wasn't sure if the military had some sort of weird classification for it like "Coat, Rain. R31E" or something like that. But yeah.

ThunderCactus January 8th, 2015 23:26

Nope, just a poncho.
You can get them in goretex though, I used to use mine to cover my gear in the rain.

Gotta love the military. Giving every day things longer names than they should have. lol.
Oooooh Goretex. Nice. Looking through Ebay now.

When I was in grade 6-9, I had something similar for cycling to the school in the rain.
Not nearly as good as a hard shell jacket, especially when tlit gets windy. still better than an umbrella (but I guess you won't go with that).
I still have that thing now, but I cut the hood part off to use the thing as a cover when cutting my hair.

Cobrajr122 January 9th, 2015 12:54

I'm sure the mil name for it is some long stupid one, but that is not really what you asked for, and asking for a poncho at clothing will get you just that.

I would just get a hardshell jacket because I find slaves far more useful than a tarp.

Danke January 9th, 2015 13:07

Don't listen to these guys.

They don't want to share the awesome power of cape culture.

lol, guess I haven't followed much of mgs since the ps2 days. when metal gear was supposed to be some giant mech thing or some such. Never been a fan of the series. *shrug* meh.

Love the German WW2 zeltbahn (shelter/poncho quarter), awesome piece of kit.
Few other countries followed suit

Gather 4, and you have a basic tent.
On it's own, small piece of cover, or a poncho, etc..

If you looking for waterproof there is the stealth suit. Its pricy though.

There is military rain coats as well that you can fit your gear over. Parka Wet Weather Field Type, CF, OG107 , 8405-21-907-9711. You can get pants as well but it goes swish swish and isn't that quiet. I carry that in my backpack for when it rains.

It is seriously worth every single penny though, probably one of my favorite pieces of kit in the field.
