You would be best to contact the individuals in person (either by phone or pm) rather than post this out in the open, you will probably receive more information that way and you can also ask any questions that you might have there and then.

I aggree with your point about there being a limited selection of retailers in Canada, but alot of that has to do with the heavy import restrictions on Airsoft products and how they are defined in law (or not as the case is). I think both the major canadian retailers are doing a fine job and considering all they have to go through to get them in to the country and still make some sort of profit.

szetor February 14th, 2007 04:42

i see what you mean... about the import restrictions..

but if one company (small business) can do it... why cant others??
i.e why have some company have to close down while ASCA can still import no probs..

maybe this is out in the open.. but it was just on my mind

im not sure if anyone else had thought about this..

It's called MONEY.

Anyone with enough patience and money can get the licenses to import airsoft. However, you won't be able to make a living at it unless you invest tens of thousands of dollars for inventory and licensing....money that few people are willing to invest in an industry that could be banned at any time. As well, running a business is hard work - it takes a lot of time, and there's not a lot of money in selling airsoft.....not enough that you could do it full time without having to guarantee several thousands of dollars a month worth of sales.

Realistically? You're going to need to invest about $50K in stock, another $10K or so for licensing and assorted sundry expenses for setting up your business, and you're going to need to make at least $5K-$6K per month in sales in order to pay yourself a decent wage you can live on. Not many people in this country have the ability or the will to pony up that kind of cash.

^ this one makes sense to me! thanks. :-)

Droc February 14th, 2007 09:21

not to mention, ASCA does great favors to stay legal. Ever see Hojos chest? Its awesome. No lawman in the world can resist hojoboobs.

as_styles February 14th, 2007 09:22

10 K for licensing... OUCH!

SEALs February 14th, 2007 11:48

damn tru and Hojo are the fathers of this board and community about 8 years ago! They've always been kicking around and the fact that no other retailer can advertise on this board except for the links, give them a great publicity and they price are fair aswell!

Yeah, plus they're just generally good people to deal with. Miles is really friendly, and answered any question I had, and Carl is a funny guy, and also friendly. Those traits REALLY help... I've never met tru, but I've heard he's a good guy.

He used to be jollier and more rotund, like an Asian Santa Claus, without the beard. Even though he's now skinny, he's still pimpin like the old man in red....

;)

Pip February 14th, 2007 14:05

bahahha, best description of Tru ever...

as_styles February 14th, 2007 14:20

Well opening any business has some investments. But airsoft is a tricky one to get a handle on.

After reading your posts I was able to readily and easily come to the conclusion that you have absolutely no idea or knowledge of the business of airsoft and retail.

Perhaps a weather report/traffic report from another planet in the solar system from you would yield more use than what's posted thus far. At least that skeptic perspective and misinformation is easier to accept.

as_styles February 14th, 2007 15:50

LOL....
nice poncho...

lt_poncho February 14th, 2007 16:17

Yeah i'm an asshole, but then i'd rather be one then an idiot.

"Potential in this market..." - this is a high risk market with no guarantees for the future. Most retailers face animosity from both their own market (if you can believe that) and the government.

"...how did u start ur business? i know they prob wouldnt want to share with us..." - How many would take the time to read a business plan? Why is this all of a sudden deemed important public information to publish and share?

Making wrong assumptions off of these visual comparisons of retailers,...might as well get on a box and start proclaiming to everyone how you are using google for the first time, and how all those hits are oh so relevant to your search query...

as_styles February 14th, 2007 16:25

I never said you were an asshole, I totally was laughing with you. As a startup company I know first hand about the retailing end of airsoft. As for people who think they know how and what it takes to start up a company, their posts make me laugh. As im sure none have had a FBL application in their hands.

Dracheous February 14th, 2007 16:41

You're forgetting one thing Poncho.

$$$ <= this symbol blinds all with a thick cloud of stupidity and greed. So much so they can't even think a simple thing through! Or look around to see if its even possible.

However I know what I'm doing with my first $10,000 if/when I win the Lotto :D.

LOL - no no, I was calling myself an asshole. I know you weren't. And I know/am familliar with the first hand experiences you have faced thus far.

True enough, Drach - the lure of 'Flint's Trove' and 'The loot of a thousand worlds' certainly makes Airsoft retail sound like 'Treasure Planet'.

Ask DROC about them there 'TREASURES'...DROC! Treasure Time!

Pip February 14th, 2007 17:57

Drocs treasures include a lot of lube and someone shouting "fuck yeah!" in a fake english accent.....If i had 10 grand, i'd be buying all the airsoft i could...sorry guys lol

Droc February 14th, 2007 22:21

If, I had won the lottery, after building my dream house out of LCD TVs(yes, the entire house, every wall, floor, ceiling etc), Id talk to the guys from the million dollar man to see if they can do some surgery on me to permanently fix 2x CA249 SAWs to each hand.

littlerobz February 14th, 2007 23:13

Droc, your surgery would be to an apendage, but I don't think it would be your hands.

I have a feeling it would still involve a CA249 SAW.

Bravo One-Six February 15th, 2007 00:00

Guess where he'll keep the 2500 rounds of ammo...

Karma February 15th, 2007 00:27
