Canada Post has to have the WORST tracking system...

I mean - it's ridiculous.

Date of Event Time of Event Location Description Retail Location Signatory Name
2008/05/21 07:44 GEORGETOWN, ON Item out for delivery
2008/05/12 17:41 RICHMOND, BC Item accepted at the Post Office

There's no tracking involved with that! It happened with my aeg and this order of bbs. I've received more information from Hong Kong post about the status of my package in Canada than I did from Canada post >.<

Anyway - I've rarely used the post system in our Country (for packages, anyway); I usually go the courier route if I have to ship anything. I'm definitely starting to think it's worth an extra $20 to a) get the package faster and b) know whats going on en route!

Ok...End of Rant.

RiteOff May 21st, 2008 10:24

Ive had a few probs with CP tracking numbers but they always seem to get the ETA date right. The only thing ive noticed is a few packages ive had sig on delivery required were left in my mailbox or in my door crack

Slimmy May 21st, 2008 10:31

Yuck, that's the only thing I want from the american's.

They can keep their milk in jugs, fanceh hats.. I just want their postal service it's quick reliable and extremely prompt with their notifications.

djbordie May 21st, 2008 10:38

yeap i second that, the item was "accepted at postal outlet in BC"
for the whole time, although my package arrived 3 days early....the updates still havent gone to "item delivered"....unreal!
GO CP!, you fuckin RTards

You're lucky; they won't deliver to me. All they do is drop a pick-up notice in my mailbox and make me go get it (I mean, you figure that out - they come within 100 metres of my house, but won't bring the package with them).

They have their issues too. I just orderd some stuff from Montana - and I live in Alberta. My package had to clear customs obviously and was routed to somewhere in Quebec for Customs Clearance...

tycho May 21st, 2008 12:07

hahahha

Update: they actually came right to my door this time...in order to give me the delivery notification slip...I mean; they paid someone to drive to my house and give me a piece of paper saying I have to go to the post office to pick it up.

I was actually speechless when the guy gave it to me, lol

jameskersten May 21st, 2008 12:26

Here is my rant about CP:
I know there tracking system blows goats, in fact I never really pay much attention to it other then to see the delivery date and to confirm its being sent. When I ordered my PTW, I got it shipped expedited service. The thing I liked about expedited service is they "gaurentee (sp?)" the delivery date so I was expecting the gun to arrive on the Friday which was fine cause we were set to play on Sunday. Well Friday comes and no sign of my stuff, tracking shows its still in Richmond BC. I phone CP and ask about it, they say it will be delivered Monday, I then ask about the "gaurentee", her response was " its only a guide line and we do have to allow a few days on either end." So whats the point of having a "gaurentee" if its just an estimate and its not worth anything anyways. F*CK I was mad!
Since then I never expect anything on time from them, if its comes on time, bonus and if not. No surprise. Its sad that its gotten to this point but what other options do we have other then paying more for a shipping company. Sometimes thats not worth it for a small piece. End of Rant

Jackals May 21st, 2008 13:08

I have family that works in CP. They actually want to change "Track Package" on their website to something else because they know that they cant actually track a package.

However when it comes to cost vs benifit. CP wins hands down over Fedex, UPS, and other services.

I have to agree in terms of cost vs. benifit, they are the best we got here in Canada

Styrak May 21st, 2008 14:55

This is normal. It's known to be like that!

CadetCatastrophe May 21st, 2008 15:02

Canada Post is fucking rediculous... good to see another georgetowner here though...

Crunchmeister May 21st, 2008 15:25

Canada Post's tracking system is a farce - a lame attempt to make it seem like they've got a working tracking system when they really don't. I've received packages and not had the tracking system be updated past "item received at post office" until 3 days after I took delivery.

NovaKaynE May 21st, 2008 18:15

CP normally shows up at my house between the hours of 1:30PM and 3:00PM. The hours i'm home, in my house, up and about. Not once in the last 3 months have I heard the door bell ring. But when I leave to go to work at 7PM, that delivery notice card is hanging on my door telling me the postman was there at 2:30PM and I have to go pick it up at the post office the next day. Most of the time I can knock off work early or take an extended lunch break to run out and get it at around 8PM, but it's an unnecessary hassle.

they have a gun that shoots out door knob notices while they drive by your house.

Firewalker May 21st, 2008 20:35

I don't know why, but I've honestly never had a single problem with the CP. Perhaps I've lucked out, and I've shipped tons of things in my time that I've tracked, so it's not a matter of it not working.

I think it stems from the fact that almost everything I've shipped has been priority mail, rather than priority parcel (though the times I've done parcel, they've been tracked, but I did send it from the central mail location in Winnipeg, lol).

glad to hear the BBs have arrived. but yeah, the canadapost tracking system is not truly reliable. the timing is off most of the time, they dont get updated frequently, the information it gives is sometimes not enough. Just take the tracking system as a grain of salt.

You're bound to have problems if you do enough volume. Unfortunately CP is the only really cost effective way to ship in Canada. UPS and Fedex have become unreasonable. Not much in the way of choices now.

MadMorbius May 21st, 2008 21:12

I was out landscaping with my shirt off (two days in a row) when my post LADY came up and handed me my mail...quite enthusiastically. I haven't had a delivery notice on my door since then. Packages are always left behind the everpresent cooler in my mud room :)

Crunchmeister May 21st, 2008 21:15

It's not that the packages DON'T get tracked reliably with Canada Post. It's that their system doesn't speak to itself very well. With all other carriers, the second that a package changes locations, crosses a sorting plant scanner, is handled manually, etc, the tracking information is updated, day, night, even weekends and holidays.

With Canada Post, your tracking may or may not be updated in several days at times. Usually, it's updated shortly after a package is posted. Then, you're quite lucky to get any sort of update until the package actually arrives at your door. Usually when I ship within Ontario and Quebec, tracking is updated once a day, which is decent.

But if I'm shipping between here and the Maritimes or west of Ontario, I'll usually receive the package before the site is updated past the initial transaction. Then the night I take delivery, I'll see the site updated with all the sortation plant and deliver info. Makes the tracking sort of useless in that case in terms of knowing where the package is.

I find it funny when I get stuff shipped from Asia with tracking. I get tons of info about my package until it lands in Canada. Then it's hit or miss whether I'll get any other information on it until it arrives at my door.

Omi-san May 21st, 2008 22:08

It seems the problem is simply that some parcels don't get scanned while they are in transit. Maybe the scanning equipement is faulty, or it's laziness from CP workers who don't bother to scan everything.

Fedex is expensive but their service is A++, i use them for any valuable item or if it needs to get to its destination quickly.

Out of 5 packets 4 will never make it to my door, I have to go pick it up... i mean fuck can't they knock at least? :S

Kos-Mos May 21st, 2008 22:58

I recently got a fuck-up with them...

Tryied to send a box in Ontario (Im from Quebec).
It came back after about a week, saying that this adress is not existent.

Shipped it again, Expedite this time after having the adress confirmed with the receiving party and CP website.
It is on it's way back again, after I argued for a good 45 min with the guys/gals at CP.

They refunded me both shipping cost plus gave me a free shipping for the parcel anywhere in Canada. Ok. I had to force their lazy ass to check if the adress was valid using their own tools, and check that indeed there was some bill comming-in every month.

In the end, I only lost a lot of time.

Funny that they never send the parcel back the way it was sent... always the slowest/cheapest method. Even if it is their error.

Mitchell12 May 21st, 2008 23:22

I've had some bad experiences. I ordered some parts and the cbsa or something must have eaten and regurgitated it because I was able to fit my hand in the hole and pull the parts out.

That and it says I signed and showed some completely different signature even though I never signed anything.

That's normal for CP, and especially if it coming or going to the US [same with USPS as well].

tycho May 22nd, 2008 00:14

lol - that was the whole point of the rant; what's normal for CP is pretty bad. I got many more updates from hong kong post about my package when it was in Canada than I got from CP about a package sent from bc.

Jiggiwatt May 22nd, 2008 13:56

I forget who the carrier was, but I bought a laptop from TigerDirect back in 2004...Their tracking info was pretty thorough and what really got me, was something like this :

1. Get home, no notice of delivery slip.
2. Pissed off, go upstairs and check tracking details
3. Tracking details "12:03:47 : Package left by the left side of door under couch on front porch"
4. Go to porch, check under couch, retrieve package.

That kind of blew my mind.

Crunchmeister May 22nd, 2008 15:10

My best "Canada Post" moment in the last year or so occurred in December when I ordered my TM P226 from Hellfire989 in BC. He contacted me to let me know the package had shipped and gave me the tracking number. The "expected delivery date" was 3 days later. Of course, other than the "Item received at post office", I got no other details from the CP tracking system until a couple of days after the package had been delivered.

Now, a day or so earlier, I had ordered some parts from Hong Kong (either Redwolf or eHobby). I received an email with a tracking number for that package shortly after (but same day) that I got the tracking number for the P226. Tracking with HK Speedpost was very accurate until it said "Item in Canada and being inspected by Customs". Again, I got no further updates from tracking until after the package was delivered...

Of course, on Day 3, my P226 didn't arrive. On day 4, it didn't arrive. Finally, on day 5, I got a delivery notice from CP. I headed over to the post office to pick up my new P226. Upon getting the package, I was quite surprised to find out that it was NOT my P226, but my package from HK instead. The P226 showed up 3 days later on a Monday... And on Tuesday evening, I got a flurry of emails from the CP tracking system with updates about the whereabouts of my 2 packages.

Go Canada Post!

arman May 23rd, 2008 00:41

go bana!na!!

EDIT shit i forgot what that word ment
p.s. its from the simpsons...

Relja May 25th, 2008 12:06

Well either customs or canadapost is a bastard i ordered a scope from HK in early march and supposedly its being reviewed by customs since March 23rd......now i have to file a claim just great.

Rumpel Felt May 25th, 2008 13:25

Uhgg.....customs. I've had genrally good experiences with until two days ago, I got a box from Redwolf, all ripped to shit and messed around with, I think some stuff may be missing....it was worth $350US. So they had no trouble raping me $70 and 63 fucking cents. Those sons of bitch bastards.

So the CP guy comes to the door and he's an off-the-boat Asian, but he was pretty nice (just ironic cause it was coming from HK and all) and tells me of this mysterious charge. After punching the wall and several "curse" words, he's like "we only take credit cards" which caused me to half punch the wall again because I hate using my Visa and I only just got it a couple months ago (had this been before then, I would have gone apeshit so it still somewhat got to me). The thing is I have paid with debit at the door several times from CP or Purolator, which IS CP.....so that pissed me off.

Once again, what you guys describe with government services and such has not been my experience usually. It's quite up to date for me. Everything usually is as said to be on the site. Usually so much so that one of my parents can go collect my shit at the plant or various stations....since both of them work for CP.

And ohhhh the stories you hear about CP employee's with two parents at two different locations. They make the employee's sound almost....human? People do fuck up as well as machines, but I haven't been fucked as bad as any of you yet. And I've got quite a number of shipments over the years.

DarkAngel May 25th, 2008 13:28

I had a package shipped to Vernon B.C
It was confirmed that CP received my package. After 1 1/2 months with the tracking showing "Canada Post has recieved the package" they lost my package and i went through hell. After 1 1/2 months, they finally found my package and it was shipped. CP has one of the worst track records and quite frankly they dont give a damn about their job. If Fedex or UPS was cheaper, id rather deal with them as they will actually go out of their way to do what they claim, CP will give you promises, and when something goes wrong, they lie to your face and tell you its "your problem not mine."

Edit : @ Rumple Felt
I Beleive That mysterious charge is Customs + Brokering fees. It happens from time to time.

CanKam May 25th, 2008 18:52

According to CP, one of my last packages took 4 days to be processed in Ontario, Ghelp being the departure location, just to arrive in Quebec 2 days before the tracking system was marked as in Quebec.
The package was Xpress ed

CanadianJoker May 25th, 2008 23:13

well i had a lovely experience with CP.

i bought some stuff from ebay banned, after a while i checked the tracking number and it said it was in customs for inspection... well thats fine, i checked it every once and a while and nothing happens. so after i dont know how long i get a slip in the door, says that my package has been sitting at the post office for ever and to pick it up or it gets sent back. it would help if i didnt recive the slip 4 days after the dead line..... there goes 70 bucks.

TokyoSeven May 25th, 2008 23:19

I never get my notice of delivery slips, Ive complained about it multiple times and it has yet to ever yield any results. Usually after 10 business days I start dropping by my local pick up center and check to see if I have anything.

Oh I know that. It's just the fact that if I was someone not so "up" on how fucking shitty and damned near criminal-like customs is I'd flip out of my skull when some guy brings me my shit and asks me for another 70 bucks with no explanation.

DC_ACU May 26th, 2008 00:57

recently theyv just been leaving the slip sticking a bit outta the mat under my door, so no one notices it untill its covered in mud.
thankfully i know a guy that works at the main post office downtown here in the falls, and if i find the slip in time, i can just call him and he'll call the driver and tell them to re-deliver it, with a loud knock on the door.

the first AEG, and 2 GBBs i ordered way back in 2004, i lived on a busy street here in the falls, and they just left the massive box on my front porch, which was 10 feet tops away from the sidewalk. we had people pull up in a pickup and steal a heavy bag hanging out of a tree in our backyard, now imagine if my package with over 1200 dollars worth of stuff in it vanished, i would have bombed the CP building.

i can understand why postmen/women would get sick of knocking on peoples doors and all, but shit, its part of your job. DO IT.
lol

CP Express Shipping = 3 Days (ontario to qc)
HK Express Shipping = Next day (with custom inspection)

I love CP, i call them every night !

Edit : Tracking is just shit.
Say they leave paper = no paper.
Delivery date = next day
Sometime you have your paper and the package is not at the right place (+ one day)
No paper, got to go to see if you got something (you take it and they leave a paper next day)

But price is low, like it's a airsoft forum, you got for what you pay !

Shipping is actually expensive.

For example, you can ship a AEG across the US from California to New York for about $13 using USPS.

No_Way May 26th, 2008 04:52

My tought was more about CP vs Puro.

Yeah US post seem better (tracking work) and inexpensive

CrackShot 07137 June 2nd, 2008 14:04

Yeah, Canada post is pretty bad. I was tracking one eBay item and it says rec'd in customs on 16th and nothing has changed since then but today I get it.

If your item is being shipped within Canada - I wouldn't worry but outside of Canada: its pointless to track.

ancorp June 2nd, 2008 14:25

How about this:

Product Type: Xpresspost
Service Standard Delivery Date: 2008/05/29

2008/05/31 00:04 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item processed at postal facility
2008/05/24 15:53 MAPLE, ON Item accepted at the Post Office

Package was supposed to be in BC on the 29th. It's only less then 50km away from my house so far, and just that took one week. Xpresspost FTW! Definitely putting a late claim for this bullshit.

Fly 9 June 12th, 2008 14:45

I'm kind of surprised here.
Firstly, I ordered something from the states the same day I ordered something from BC, June 6th.
I received my order from the states two days ago and the BC order is still sitting in the post office in BC with an ETA of the 19th of June. Something from out of the country took less time to get to me than something from my own country. Baffling.

Edit - Don't get me started on the Mississauga office...it seems like they take forever there. Must be a huge receiving office or something because one of my orders sat in there for a good week before I got the "Item is out for delivery" notice. I was tempted to just go there and ask for it.

Invasian June 12th, 2008 15:08

Don't know if you are aware of this, but if you pay for xpresspost or expedited, and it DOES NOT make the SP delivery date, CP WILL REFUND YOU!!!

I had to ship my two gats to alberta, left on wednesday, meant for friday delivery, got there monday, called CP, told them i paid for delivery for friday, they confirmed my address and the shipping-to address and they told me 7-10 i would get a refund. I initially thought that I would only get the cost of shipping not the actually insurance which i paid extra for...i in fact got a check 4 days letter in the entire amount...$was $60 + was quite pleased with that. Just my two cents...

ColtFarmer June 12th, 2008 15:24

Good to know Invasian, there is at least a recourse for the subpar service.

I received my order from the states two days ago and the BC order is still sitting in the post office in BC with an ETA of the 19th of June. Something from out of the country took less time to get to me than something from my own country. Baffling.

That's typical. Go look at post #36 in this thread. A package mailed EMS from Hong Kong made it to me faster than a package mailed Xpresspost from BC.

I know that XpressPost is a guaranteed service. Are you sure Expedited is?
