Cheap COMM solution?

Hi guys,

Wondering what type of comm setups some of you have out there! Looking for something on a student budget, so my buddies and I can have increased communication on the field. Not looking for UHF, or throat-comms, or anything fancy like that.

Anyone have a simple walkie-talkie with a headset config they would like to share?

Thanks!

The problem with simple walkie talkies is that many other peoples radios will not receive them.

UHF can be had for around $90 shipped to your door and they come with headsets. Motorola Talkabouts are around 90 + tax for a pair and don`t have any headsets, and don`t have anywhere near the power of UHF 4W radios.

Buy a Puxing-888 get a ztactical ptt and head set you'll be set for ~$130 After Boots and eyepro, comms are critical

Puxing PX-888K will get you UHF 4 watts and VHF at 5 watts for $80 USD shipped. Put it in a radio holder near the top of your plate carrier/vest and you won't have to use a headset. Speaker mic runs about $15 to $20 more. You can use all of the FRS/GMRS frequencies and any VHF you might have near you (like we have MURS here in the US.)

you do realize that Motorola, cobra, and all the no name FRS/GMRS radios are in the UHF band?

I run both the Wouxun KG-UVD1P and Puxing 777 UHF and get excellent range (Rx/Tx) with my setups. Both at or under $100. I've been told the Wouxun transmits loud even at distance.

Buy something with quality the first time. Don't cheap out.

lol, no. I did not realize that. I think what I meant to say was VHF. Bascially, nothing too expensive. I want a headset, I don't care if it's PTT, but I don't want to spend a fortune.. Tuition has bled me dry. Just looking for something that'll help me get on the field and help keep me busy this summer.

I have done a few orders from Frank and they have all been great!

On another note to those recommending radios that also use VHF. Don't waste your money on them - any frequency outside of the FRS/GMRS channels are not legal to use, unless you have permission to use the frequency/have paid for use of it OR have your amateur license.

You are correct, also another reason for wanting to avoid them.

Does anyone know how these fare? I've done a little research, I really only want a squad solution for now (4 people). A bonus is they come with a set of PTT mics:

Simple rule, dont cheap out. Same as with your airsoft gun, batteries, even your gear applies. Buy a good radio and headset setup, good ones arent that expensive, and trust me, you will be happier and more effective in the game when you can both hear people clearly, they can hear you clearly, and nothing breaks mid way through an op because it was "cheap"

100 bucks will get you set up. Puxing 888, and any one of techsellers accessories to go with it.

the only reason I use my Wouxun in VHF is for NOAA. :)

NOAA is something that I have missed since ditching commercial GMRS/FRS radios...I usually just pull up EC forecasts on my phone now though :P
