Project: Kraken

Now I've got my kraken lying around collecting dust and have been thinking about playing around with it to
a) learn more about upgrading AEGs (getting to know the internal workings a bit better) and

b) possibly turn it into a decent gucci'd up AK if possible or at the very least have a decent loaner for friends.

I guess my question is: Is the the Kraken able to be upgraded or is it beyond hope? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's TM compatible.

Hmm nice thread, I have a buddy wanting to put a metal body on his.
God knows why. Buy a damn decent one. But none the less :)

I started off with a Kraken ak. cheap gun, but it works quite well.
It's a Tokyo Marui clone so MOST ak47 parts will fit it. I feel the weakest part of the Krakens are the exterior. I've been gaming mine for a little over 2 years now and it has never let me down. I've put a 6.03 tightbore on it as well as plugged it up to a 9.6v battery and those two elements combined are rather inexpensive and greatly affect the gun's performance (IMO). The long barrel of the AK means the accuracy and groupings are pretty good and I haven't had anything internal break on my Kraken yet. The plastic reciever however is really what I feel is the downside to this gun. it cracks easily and replacement metal bodies cost almost as much as a new Kraken (if you can find an AK metal-body in Canada). I suggest you keep it, at least as a loaner. (it's always good to have a backup weapon to bring to games "just in case".

so with Krakens the sky is the limit.

On another note Trailmarker formerly Known as Airgunsource in Peterborough brings in the American Krakens for under $200

Credit for Baroc for the correction thanks man!

thanks for the info. glad to know it won't just be a dust collector and is worth putting some money into.

Correction noted thanks Baroc

Is there any trick to getting the orange tip off? Seems pretty secure

Kingsix June 10th, 2012 19:59

It's held on by superglue, I normally just use pliers to twist it off and replace with a nicer looking flash hider.

PrIeSt June 10th, 2012 21:21

stick it in hot water first, can loose the glue off.

Thanks, gonna start taking it apart tonight I think.

I would love to go all out for something like this.

I've been thinking I want to make a counter sniper AK. Not quite going the SVD route, but just an AK47 with some range, but something I can still keep as a regular aeg. Thinking a 6.01 -6.03 barrel, probably longer so it'll extend into a supressor. Similar to the pic. Bipod was just to see how it would look and that's not the exact sight. Just playing around.
