Rules Of Engagement

Okay, this post isn't totally about RoE, but I'm wondering more about how an Airsoft game is planned and played out. How do you decide teams? What weapons do you need/are a good idea? What mods do you need/are a good idea? What equipment? Who decides the rules? What are the general rules?

Basically, I'd like to get a rundown on what's involved, so that even before you buy a gun and some camo, you have an idea of what you need to consider before making a rather significant purchase.

Thanks.

Read the FAQ's and it will answer most of your questions, then go to a game to find out.

1. Read FAQ
2. Usually the field organisers determine the rules. The rules are pretty standard get hit and you're out. Sometimes gun hits arn't a kill but you can't use your gun. Etc. Teams where we play are derermined randomly, sometimes people have different cammo patterns for different teams. Usually start with an AEG (automatic electic gun) anything less and you'll be super outclassed and get annoyed with the sport. (I preffer the ak) Usually a stock gun is good enough to play with. Unless you have an upgraded gun (new inner barrel etc) the accuracy won't be good enough to warrent a scope. Although a scope could be good for spotting targets further away. You need a battery with your gun and some mags. If you decide to go with locaps you need some type of system to store them on you (webbing etc).
3. Read FAQ

I've been doing lots and lots of reading, which prompted my question. I couldn't actually see anything that explicitly stated what one can expect when in the field for the first time.

Thanks for the help.

it's a good movie, I'd have to say that after that, Jackson's films went downhill from there.

Ah, the FAQ FORUM. That would explain why the FAQ link at the top there took me nowhere.

Or you could register on the local MAA Forums and get to know the people in your area. The link is at the top of the page, under communities, Manitoba.

your best bet to fully understand how a game comes together would be to attend one...even if you dont have an AEG or equipment...most hosts will allow spectators...and you can ask the players to look at their aegs which will also give you a better idea of what you want.

another idea on how teams are formed is to look through some of the game threads and check those out...you will see that sometimes its cadpat vs. other camo or red arm bands vs. blue arm bands...or team vs. team. depending on the organizer the rules can change greatly.
