Upgrading my CA M15A4 Rifle
 

This aeg is the full stock/full length version of the CA M15A4.
I want to upgrade it to 390-400fps.
So I am just wondering what set-up has worked for other people who have this gun?

I will obviously buy a stronger spring, but other than that...What else should I upgrade?

You definately want to look at metal bushings, I can't remember if the CA has metal bushings stock or not, but I doubt it. So that's your first upgrade. Then, check out the spring guide, and get an appropriate spring to fit your FPS needs. Also, a spring guide is a nice upgrade as well as a piston. But those aren't necessary. Also, if you want some increased accuracy as well, check out a tight bore barrel. They work wonders.

CA guns have stock steel bushings installed. Changing the piston in your CA mechbox would increase your fps alot. Stock piston heads arent that great.
Escepecially CA piston heads the seals are that great.

Am I wrong to think that certain guns have specific areas that need more/less upgrading than others?

Its nice to hear from fellow CA owners...keep the comments coming....like for example, what upgrades and brands worked best with your CA M15A4?

M15 series are top notch. The only part needed to upgrade would be the piston+piston head ( Or not ? Stock one are not so bad ) ...and I head PDI springs fits better in CA guns. Maybe 140% or 150%(careful for lemon with PDI)

All the options so far are part of the basics; spring, bushings (when not already metal), some other easy to change parts.
So I'm sorry if I sounded unhelpful. I just pointed out what works. You wanted the basics after all. They apply to any gun.

If you want more specific suggestions, just narrow down your question.

Hey, Stokes, the C.A. pistons are just fine. And they use quite a good piston head as well. The new C.A. guns come with 7mm metal bushings. You could use a new spring, guide and that's about it.

But to be honest, I wouldn't bother with the upgrades. When your gun is shooting 330 fps out of the box, Upgrading to 390 fps will really only give you a modest improvement in performance. And C.A. uses their own motor, so who knows how it'll perform with a heavier load.

Evereyone is on an "I gotta upgrade this gun" kick and really it's not necessary. Try your gun stock for a season and you'll find out that upgrades aren't all they're cracked up to be.

I have several upgraded guns, all of which I can't use most of the time, and they require far more maintenance and repairs than they're worth. I spend most of my time using stock guns. Most places won't let you use a 400 fps full auto gun and even in large open areas it gets frowned upon.

The new C.A guns seem to be fairly good out of the box. If you're looking for shot consistancy and accuracy (which is 1000 times more important than velocity) look at a good piston head set, cylinder and tightbore barrel. I'm partial to the Systema silent head set myself and Prometheus makes some good cylinders and barrels as well.

I've played with guys using very well tuned guns shooting 300 fps that will outrange and have better accuracy that guns shooting 400 fps.

It's your gun, time and money, so it's really up to you.

I completely agree with your post, but I'd like to note that in my experience, CA motors are superior to Marui motors.

You could well be right about the motors. I don't have enough exposure to their current run of motors with heavier spring loads.

Very interesting....I agree with your comment on the "upgraded gun trend"...it seems that almost no one has confidence in stock guns anymore. I probably would keep the gun stock, however I have already played with it for one season and am thinking it might need some tinkering.

I would definately say that accuracy/consistency is a greater priority than velocity. So would getting a piston head set, cylinder and tightbore barrel be your answer for getting consistency/accuracy?

If you want, make a list of everything the CA M15A4 would need, but assuming that the original parts are still working.

Which one is better TM M4 or CA M4 ? For accuracy, durability, upgrading capability I mean....

Only TM has stock Nylon bushings (well, of the "mentionable" manufacturers anyways...)
