First things first, welcome to ASC. Anyways..

To start off, find the colors you will be working with. In this case, you will be wanting to use ultra-flat paints, (preferable,) or a semi-flat. Stay away from gloss, or even satin finish paints. The brand of paint that is used by many people is krylon, due to their wide variety of flat paints.

Basically you want to hold the nozzle 8' away from the gun, and spraying in a 'strafing' motion. Don't over-apply, since paint does build-up. I recommend you practice on any cheap airsoft guns, or just a nerf gun or something related.

For stencils (things you cut out,) you want to get an exacto knife, (yes, they do exist. it's a really sharp knife, so be careful.) And get a magazine cover. Print off a CADPAT pattern, place the CADPAT paper over the magazine, and cut out the design. it will now be on the magazine cover. ANYWAYS, once your base coat is on you gun, you want to hold the pattern to the gun and spray paint it in a color you want.

Try and randomize where you place the stencils. In fact, the best way to do this is to not even think of where to place the next one. If you think about it, it won't be as random, and won't look natural.

(Warning: You need at least 3 different stencils to make it look natural and randomized.)

Anyways, just have fun. And if you mess up, you can usually paint over it and restart.

.. Don't paint an AK47 CADPAT...

If you're putting together a CADPAT outfit get a C7 or a C8.

Canadians don't use AK47's

Get three magazine cover's as stencils. Print out three different CADPAT patterns. Put the patterns on the magazine covers. Cut out the CADPAT design. Done.

As for colors...

What you wanna do is when you print out the CADPAT design, cut out a seperate color, like a black one for example, (Find it on the photo above,) and put that on the magazine cover. Essentially, just stare at a CADPAT pattern for a few seconds, and you'll get the general idea of what it is supposed to look like hopefully...

If you get age verified you'll have access to the buy and sell here. There are currently a few "grey marketeers" as well as many private sellers. I'm sure you'll find an M4/M16 no problem.

Instead of going cadpat, why not just paint it OD green?

OD = Olive Drab

Just paint the "wooden" furniture
-The Stock
- "pistol" Grip
- Front Grip

But leave all the metal parts black.

Here's a neat link...I was looking at their DPM page, but this one might help for digital...have no idea what the actual colour codes are....I suppose you could always get a sample piece scanned at a paint store.

Other than that part where it was stated that Canadians never use AKs. That's a Canadian, using an AK. Seems contextual to me.

Just saying....

Who says it's a Canadian?
