G&G GR16 (blowback) Mods

I'm so newbie tanking this.
Basically, as many people have come to understand and experiance, the pnuematic GR16 has a problem with the lower reciever once the front pin is removed, and thats basically.. don't remove the front pin or it's never going back in. Thats a ryhme, get with it.

I would preferably like to get rid of that receiver, and switch in a decent metal one. Although I've heard not all are going to fit the pnuematic, whether its because of the hopup, or the pnuematic system atop the mechbox, in any case Im trying to find out which type of metal lower receiver will fit. I assume anyone who owns a pneumatic GR16 and has swapped the lower receiver would have an answer to this.

On a side note, if you know someone on ASC who can get me a metal lower, shoot me a PM.

So any help is appreciated.

It looks the same as the G&G AEG lowers, what's your problem with getting it back in?

The front pin on the AEG's has a slot in it that a small pointy pin tensioned with a spring pushes into to stop it coming all the way out of the receiver. If you get a jewellers screwdriver, you can push that pin in by sticking the screwdriver in the slot and then pull the main pin all the way out.

To put it back in, just stick the pointy pin back on the spring and push it in with the jewellers screwdriver and then slide it out of the way as you push the main pin back in.

I just did this yesterday, it wasn't too much trouble.

The lower receiver on the pnuematic GR16 was treated different, so once you remove the front pin, the receiver readjusts, and after that takes place, the front pin no longer fits without the risk of breaking your lower receiver. This is extremely common among the pnuematic GR16, but not the standard GR16. (or so I'm told.)

Besides, its time for a body upgrade anyway, plastic just doesn't do it for me, lol.

I've removed and put the front pin back no problem... it's a little tough but if you use the barrel to push the receiver back it works like a charm...
also I think that with metal receivers you'd need to mod the upper so that the blowback mechanism fits, but I think the lower would fit no problem.

IceTray June 26th, 2009 15:19

Yea, I was pretty sure the upper would need to be mod'd, but I've also heard some lowers aren't fitting properly, so I'm basically just looking for a recommendation on a metal reciever, ideally I wouldn't much like spending a heaping of cash on a receiver to not have it fit (guess its my fault for grabbing a pnuematic GR16, lol); then one day hopefully I'll find one in the classifieds, haha

Yeah I'm probably going to get a King Arms receiver... I hear they fit with pretty much any mechbox (other than the blowback upper)
But I think to make the upper fit you'd just need to make the inside top of the upper flat... cuz really the only difference in the upper is the hook for the cocking handle

I'll probably hop on that boat with you then. If you get one before I do, let me know how it turns out so I know what to do, haha.

For sure... it'll probably be a while till I get one though...

Just an idea but if you could find a reciver made to fit a toptech it probably won't need any moding

Ideally, I was leaning towards something similar to this;

(Not even sure if one similar to that will fit.)

In reality if the upper receiever needed too much modification to fit, I'd probably leave the current one on. It's pretty firm, and holds up nice. But from what I gather, not many people have thrown a metal body onto the blowback GR16.

So... have u guys got your receivers yet? I'm thinking of gettin a King Arms Vltor. HOw much work does it take to get the blowback to fit?

Pistol PMD July 25th, 2010 15:15

I have a Top Tech M4 blowback. The metal conversion question doesn't seem to have a solid answer. Ive heard it definitely can be done, and Ive heard it definitely cant be done, and everything in between.

Anyone knows if the Classic army EBB rifles take work to fit into metal receivers?

It can be done. Its an unfortunate amount of work. I ended up ditching the pneumatic mechbox for a standard, and just built an M4 from parts. Stock, the pneumatic mechbox will not fit into a metal receiver (Unless its a metal receiver made for it).
