Don't buy from Evike. CRAZY DUTY FEE

Today I finally received my package from Evike.

I ordered a whole wack of products to upgrade my 5.1.

But it came with a 175$ duty fee.

Seriously, what the fuck is going wrong with our ridiculous border services.

This is retarded...

I made this thread hopefully to warn future buyers from buying upgrades and canadian legal parts from Evike.

Not that their website or service isn't good (in fact they're okay) its just apparent now that packages from them can be pinned with huge duty fees.

Edit:

Oh and if there were existing threads warning of this...I am going to feel really really stupid

Did you get it shipped by UPS?

If you're buying from the US always get the seller to ship by USPS.

gpassfield11 August 14th, 2009 13:04

What was the total value of the package?

zone 69 August 14th, 2009 13:12

Sorry to make you feel stupid.

Skladfin August 14th, 2009 13:29

what was the total price of your order? and $20~30 of those are CBSA checking fees, Yes, they charge those as well.

Drake August 14th, 2009 13:35

There's plenty of threads warning against shopping at Evike already.

Rock 'N' Roll Outlaw August 14th, 2009 16:17

Ive had a bunch of things from Evike, but I never had to deal with their shipping process :D

Combine August 14th, 2009 16:21

It was shipped USPS

and the total value was around 250 canadian, plus 45 for shipping and now this new fee

like WTF

I'm considering just paying to send it back and get my money back...but then again it would take me a shitton of time to get all these mods from a canadian website.

Danke August 14th, 2009 18:52

You'd never be able to draw that duty back.

You won't get a refund on the fees.

Drake August 14th, 2009 19:43

Yup. Sucks, but that $175 is gone, kiss it goodbye and remember about it before shopping at Evike again. And tell all your friends.

Ronan August 14th, 2009 19:53

Refuse the package. I'v refused a whole bunch of packages with fraudulence 'import' taxes.

Sim123456 August 14th, 2009 19:53

For small things (like and ak battery tray) there is no problem at all, shipped by Fedex.

ex August 14th, 2009 19:57

Ummm $250.00 plus GST/PST = roughly $265.00 CDN. There should be a Duty assessment sheet attached to the customs paperwork. What the hell did they asses the value as? Any time I have been hit with customs/duty they itemize the contents with an assessed value and state whether or not I am paying just the tax or tax+duty.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you buy outside of Canada at the very least expect to pay the tax plus the Customs handling charge. Always count on this and you won't be disappointed when it arrives with some money owing.
