DON'T DO IT!

Keep your ICS M4 STOCK... man o man... I've had nothing but problems... and now I'm waiting on gears just because I decided I wanted my ICS M4 to fire over the 400FPS limit.

Within the first week, everything stock, my piston body broke, ok, fine, I can deal with that. Tried to contact Shinobii about it, and I gave up after he stopped replying. So, I replaced it with a Deep Fire piston body, yay!

Then I decided to get the upgraded upper, the MA-54... and this is where the fun begins! I lubed all the moving parts in the upper, greased the seals... anything that would move when the rifle was cycled. Now, I wanted the rifle to stay firing at 370ish FPS, so instead of putting the 120 spring, I decided to use a 110. That being said… I bolted it all together put it in the rifle… and fired…

Five shots away and the gear box grunted and back spun. Hmm… what the hell?

I took the lower box apart. The teeth that spin the Spur Gear, on the Bevel Gear, broke off and a tooth was missing on the Spur Gear. *sigh* So, I then decided to check out the upper (curiosity got the best of me) as it turns out, the pot metal insert (the last tooth) on the aluminum piston was also broke. This got me to thinking what the hell would have happened if I used the 120 spring?

Moral of this torrid tale… ICS does make lemons and I have the biggest one they made… upgrade the spring?

Don’t do it. Keep it stock for as long as you can!! LOL… funny stuff!
