The dust cover is just a regular dust cover. There's a little e-clip that snaps onto the dust cover rod. Take that clip off and then you might be able to wiggle the rod out. If you can't (because the forward assist knob is blocking it too much)...you're supposed to take the front end off (or at least the fore-grips and delta ring) and slip it out forward. You might have to take the front sight and gas tube out as well to get the Delta ring off...can't remember.
If I recall correctly, go easy on the plastic nub on the dust cover that catches the top inside of the ejection port. It's overly long and can snap off.
