Yes if it is stripped or has come loose like m102404 explained then you would need to buy a new one. Unfortunately, buying single gears isn't very easy (usually), so you would probably have to buy a whole new gear set. Especially since interchanging gears, and using one make of gear with 2 other of a different brand is a bad idea.
