How much use has your magazine seen? Maybe the mag spring is worn and losing its bounce. With less BBs, there's less tension on it and maybe with only 1 BB in the mag there's not enough tension to push it all the way up to the top. Just a thought, I'm looking at my gun to see what else could be wrong.
