Having the thumb completly on the top is not very usefull, having it parallel of the barrel and on (or slightly aboove) the side rail is the most "fitting" way to hold it. That is to stop right away the gun when turning to get on target without "wobble".
The guys using fore grip as... well, grips and M203/EGLM users know that well.
For switches I like to use the rail covers from Tango Down with a switch space on them.
For the weight I shoot my M95 standing so I'm not very concerned by that... but AK with grenade launcher is still extremely hard to keep on target for a while.
