I can't say I have much knowledge of gear either, but here are my best attempts at helpful suggestions.
If you want a store fairly close to you (also an online store) that seems to have a good selection of a lot of BDUs try Crown Surplus (
www.armysurplus.com). They are in Calgary and stock Propper BDUs which is one of the best brands.
As for other items like gloves and rigs, I would recommend Blackhawk gear (though not sure where you can order it from online aside from
www.blackhawk.com or near you). I know that Hamilton Tactical (
www.hamiltontactical.ca) sells some of their stuff online but they are in Ontario.
