if it's a press fit... you could just tap the pinion down lower and cut the excess shaft off

if it's a "D" shaft .. take the pinion off and file/grind the flat on the shaft for the pinion to go farther down and then cut/file the excess off


if your going to tap the pinion down make sure you support the motor shaft at the back .. the shaft itself not the motor end bell to avoid any damage to bearings/bushings and endbell. also be careful not to "mushroom" the shaft
