I haven't heard of this being at all common...
The selector switch is attached by a little screw that passes through a little metal/plastic disk that's on the inside of the body. If the threads/hole in the back of the selector are stripped out...or if the screw is stripped...then I can see that happening.
I think that it simply takes a "standard" selector switch...which you can get on their own or in a "body kit".
Either way you'll need to get the mechbox out of the body (same as many other M4's)...and you'll need to pop out the fake selector switch cover from the right side of the body (they're usually crazy glued in place). Then put the selector switch (with spring and ball underneath) in position...line up the selector disk...put a small touch of loctite on the screw and screw it together. Then glue back on the right side fake selector switch cover.
There's usually a pin/ball and spring under the selector switch...that makes it click into the various positions. Some switches have it captured...many don't. If you've lost those you'll want to find a replacement switch that comes with those bits (spring and ball...or spring and plug). You might be able to find a small enough spring and ball...but they're tiny and unusual. A full body kit should have them.
Contact Jugglez at airsoftparts...he should have what you need. Or a local gun doc who does a lot of work. He'll probably have odds and ends left over from other builds.
Best of luck
