If you're at the same muzzle energy with your pistol as they are with their rifles, then the only problem is that it's WAY harder to hit someone 200ft away with a pistol than it is a rifle with a stock on it.
Nothing wrong with playing in hard mode, though. Might as well give it a try and see how it goes. Worst case, you don't like it lol
