Fitting the Magpul PTS MOE Motor Plate

I wanted to contribute to the thread by saying that I just got the MIAD grip working on my rifle. The platform is a G&G CQB-R (professional series) and I was using the PTS MIAD grip kit. Initially had the same problem where the motor was pushed too far in. Seems Magpul failed to do their homework with this product as I had the same fitment issues with a TM EG700 (and I'm guessing that other TM motors have the same end shape).

The motor has a circular plastic bit at the very end, that the grip or motor plate push against. The problem is that its diameter is too wide to fit within the threaded area of the MIAD grip. You can't really widen the grip portion since you would ruin the threads and lose any ability to adjust down the screw. So I used the sanding attachment on my dremel to shave down the circular part of the motor, to a circumference that would fit within the threads. Just be careful not to alter the flat portion that needs to lie flush with the motor height screw in order to ensure proper pinion-bevel gear alignment.

After shaving it down, the adjustment range is much greater, enough that if I don't screw in the height adjuster the motor will be out *too* far. This is good, since when the screw is in further it is less likely to loosen, as many people have been mentioning.

To be clear, I did not have to shave down any fins, parts of the grip baseplate, or anything other than the narrowing the diameter of the motor.

PS My MIAD grip kit came with two baseplates. Am I the only one?

Mine didn't come with 2 baseplates ans I hacked away at the one I got.
Never thought about modifying the motor itself.

I haven't tried installing it since my original try. I went the way of trying to drill out the diameter of the baseplate, but a drill bit that large is too big to finesse the proper diameter.

the aeg that I was trying to install it on was a CA M15 and so far I've gotten 2 grips that for one reason or another won't fit properly. The first one was one of those sniper grips and it was revealing the bottom of the mechbox. I thought the magpul would slip right in....

I think the magpul grip's baseplate isn't too mashed up that I might be able to reuse it on an older TM XM177E2 that I've been wanting to upgrade to a metal kit. I'll have to test fit it at some point and see.

I need to test out my work on the field of battle but assuming that goes well, I'll be selling my extra grip and motor plate in case anyone is interested. $25+SH and it'll be FDE, with the finger groove on front. I'll include the motor plate and the high backstrap.

Just so you know... I have installed MOE and MIAD grips on at least 7 rifles so far...

Two of them where ICS M4s (Yes, it is not supposed to be possible).

The best solution would be to re-shim your mechbox. You won't have to modify anything permanently that way.

Just displace the shims on the smaller side of the bevel gear (leave at least enough so that the gear does not rub against the mechbox).

Then do the same with the other two gears to match the bevel position.

It will let you push the motor in further and allow you to adjust the heigh properly. It might also save your motor pinion. A lot of guns I see recently have the bevel wrong, so the pinion only touch the bevel half of the surface. This cause extra noise and wear.
