Maybe Its different with Sniper scopes, But i never recommend Cheap Optics. I have had too many bad experiences buying poor Optics, I try to stick to legit brands.

They also have this cheap 3-9x40 Non illuminated for $45 (with mount): http://www.riflescope-shop.com/product/SFB3940R

Should I get illuminated or non illuminated?

EDIT: :P Damn, forgot to change prices to CAD on their site, and now see a price change.

If you can get illuminated for cheap, go for it, is worth having the option if you are playing in low light/night games. If you have a good scope with a large objective lens, in some light at night your view actually brightens a bit, but if you can't see the crosshairs your gun is useless. But if you get some quick release rings for your sope, you can pull it off and go with a red dot or something more useful. Is why I love my RDS on my MP5 and my NV scope when I need it, quick to swap back and forth.

Hmm. Well, the 3-9x40 non illuminated is $55 after shipping. And the illuminated is like $80-90 after shipping.

You get what you pay for. I paid $100 shipped for my Rex 3-9x40 Illuminated scope. Stuck it on a Diana air rifle and have had zero regrets. Illumination is great. Never thought I'd use it until we started doing plinking in the evening. Setting sun washed out my buddies sight but mine had a bunch of different light settings and worked out fine. As Stalker said, it actually made it slightly brighter than what my eye could see without turning it on.

hehe...I never understood why guys put scopes on anything but a sniper rifle. And especially an AK. Acogs and Elcans on M4s and M16s...OK...but even in the real world the only thing you would see on an AK would be a red dot....and those are few and far between. Scopes on assault rifles just looks goofy if you ask me.

Bushnell goes for about 80-130$ for a 3-9x40mm hunting scope. At those price, the lense quality is perfect for what we do.

I only see chromatic aberation when zoomed at 9x and looking at stuff that are 500m and beyond. The FOV is also very good and the images are very clear compared to a Tasco scope or cheapass replicas.

Like I keep saying, if you intent on using your scope for sniping or spotting/IDing target in dence vegetation, you need a minimum of quality.

I tried with a Tasco 3-9x30mm Illuminated (the one everyone and their cat has) and I could not see shit out of the scope. I had to return to the car to change my scope.

But...in the movies only the cool people have scopes on rifles!!!!!

In all seriousness though, I do share you sentiment. Ive personally never seen the need for any kind of sight other than iron sights. I have an ACOG on my UMP that I only use for spotting where I think I already saw a possible enemy with my naked eye. And Im not gonna lie, also because it looks badass. Other than that, I see little need for scopes on something other than a BA, maybe a DMR at the most.

I guess that I kind of have a picture in my mind what various rifles should look like. I base this on the images I see from various armed forces and their weapons. For me airsoft is appealing for the realism and simulation. SO if armed forces don't kit out their perspective weapons with a certain type of optics....then anything else looks goofy.
