Why not gas rifles?

Hi all, I've joined the site a couple of days ago after a friend showed me his gas hand gun and have been psyched to join the sport. I've been doing research high and low but haven't really found much info on it or have missed it so...please don't flame me for my first post. So I've been wondering why AEGs are by far so much more popular than Gas rifles? Personally I find gas rifles to be much "cooler" in a sense but I'm guessing they aren't as practical in a game? Could it be the reloading aspect during the game (ie. filling mags with propane) or upgrade ability? Thanks all.

Also if Krusty and Endymion are checking this out, I'm still looking to hearing from you lol.

Gas rifles are popular. Google WETTTI AWSS, or WA GBBR, or Tanio Koba GBBR, or GHK Ak, or Daytona Gun ... for all of the modern gas gun systems.

Also, gas rifles are much older... I have less experience, but an example is the Escort gas system.

AEG's are more reliable in the colder weather, and are technically less expensive due to the cost of magazines and propane.

Game-ability. Gas rifles have a lot more inconsistency shot to shot, some have cooldown because of the small gas capacity of mags, and getting gameable gas rifle setup and enough mags is a lot more expensive.

AEGs are easier to fix (gundocs are mostly specialized in aeg since they are more common) and modify due to availability of spare parts
they are less expensive to field in terms of mag cost
they are generally more consistent in terms of performance
AEGs also tend to be cheaper

I've got to disagree with you on that point.

WETTI AWSS series guns can be field stripped in about 10 seconds, and cleaned in 30 seconds. Try doing that to a mechbox.

Also, to buy the internals of WETTI system, is about $150 shipped, for everything.

Simply put
Neo-Gas Rifle are problemanic:
*Cool Down
*Expensive Magazine
*Parts breakage

Classic (Escort) External Air are rare:
*There's only 2 available in classified vs ~10 Neo-Gas rifle, and hundreds of electric
*Parts are hard to find
*Some of the older models have unique magazine that had been long discontinued.

But The Classics are known for their reliability. Remember alot of those are still from back in the early 90s late 80s and still ticking.

The biggest problem with Classic is the setup cost.
A Rig will Cost you $200, tank $50-$250 depending on the size and weight (if you don't mind carrying a steel tank, then its pretty cheap. Carbon fibre are expensive as hell 88ct cost $260USD.

In Short both are money drainers. New Gas rifle is the upkeep, while Classic is initial

Example:
G&P WOC w/ 6+1 mags:

WOC: $1200
Magazine: $50 each (using G&P ones assuming no leakage) = $300
Bolt Carrier Replacement: $100 (assuming you go with efficiency and went with a light carrier)

$1650, assuming no nozzle break and you are willing to take the short 210mm inner barrel. If not
Inner barrel: $50-75 (depending on length)
NPAS: $40 (FPS will be too high with longer inner barrel)
so probably n $1700 to start.

Classics: 6+1 Magazine
Daytonagun $1400 (Im just wild guessing if you import from retailer)
Regulator Rig: $200
Air Tank: $250
Magazines: ~$60
= $1900
so yea its up to you. Of course these number are fairly rough.

I can field strip my KJW GBB M4 and oil the internals faster than an AEG.

I'm anal about keeping my gas gun oiled up and working smoothly.
If you don't plan on maintaining your gun all the time, get an electric.

If you like to tinker and field strip your gun whenever you can, buy gas!

besides, you cant get any closer to real than gas.

to sum it up
Gas rifles tend to be not new user friendly in terms of cost and maintenance

Negatory.

New USERS tend to be un-awares of how things works...AEG or GBBR. There are simply more AEG users/info out there to spoon feed them.

Case in point with last night's "My new gun doesn't work - HELP"....answered by many, many people right away with "You need more BBs in your high cap and you need to wind your hicap for it to feed BBs".

My last gas rifle cost less than my either of my last two AEGs...(not counting PTWs).

I rebuilt 2 complete gas rifles in about a 1 hour stretch...to tear down and get into two AEGs it would have been a lot more parts to fiddle with and a longer period of time.

I'm not "Must do gas rifle or die"....the last couple of games the AEGs and PTW's were pulled out....and one of those electrics will always go as a backup if the GBBR is ever used as a primary.
