Up-grade?

Hello again.

I wish to make my pistol, able to run on propane. Mainly for the reason of having, all my gun-toys run on the same fuel.

I'm wondering if to upgrade my older-style KSC USP .45 to run reliably on propane, or just get the latest System-7 USP's (I understand they come ready for propane, metal slide and everything).

Is it just a metal slide, and upgraded springs needed for reliability; or, is there other internal pot-metal bits, that will need replacing as well?

Generally most GBB's can run on propane fine. What were you using before, duster?
If the slide DOES break, you can upgrade to a metal one.

Yes, I was using Tetra-gas via duster.

So run it till she spits a part, then replace a part at a time till she's good?...

I suppose.

Most pistols will be fine. A metal slide is for 1) looks and 2) durability. To keep the increased mass of the slide in check, consider 1) enhanced recoil spring and 2) "shock" buffers (essentially rubber washers that cushion the blow of the slide when it reaches the end of it's blow back).

Nozzles (which are essentially the cylinder of many gas pistols) are a weak point...reinforced nozzles are made with harder plastics or are slightly thicker to take the pressures.

Your main hammer spring might be too weak to "knock" the mag valve adequately....a stronger spring will help, but put more strain on the knocker and put more resistance on the slide's rearward movement (since the slide needs to push/cock the hammer and there's limited forces involved).

Change one thing at a time...keep an eye on how it's working. Balance off looks/durability with performance.

Best of luck
