Bolt Action Assault rifle?

So I'm sort of trying to go for something old school since all my gear is WWII themed.

I'm downgrading and changing up a VSR-10 to the following:
350FPS
14" rail with LMT iron sights

Would it be possible to use this as medium range Assault weapon on field?

By definition an assault rifle is select fire.

As long as you run with support no reason why you can't fill a Designated Marksman Role

I know a guy who has a clone L96, stock internals, that he uses the same way most players use AEGs and he does pretty well. Somehow. That said, you really want to keep the enemy at a distance with one of those.

Brian's right: DM is the way to go.
