Testing a motor?

Hi,

I'm trying to repair an AEG for a friend. Nothing happened when pulling the trigger with a new battery, fully charged. No sound or movement at all.

My first guess was a broken wire. I checked everything outside the gearbox and it seems fine. It's not the fuse either, I have bypassed it. I don't know a lot about AEG, but I guess that only possibilities left are the motor or inside the gearbox.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to test the motor without everything connected. If I plug it directly with the battery, should it spin? I'm hoping I don't have to open the gearbox...

Hi First, i'm no expert- I have tested a motor that way, make sure you get the polarity correct (positive to positive) and have a firm grip on the motor. If you have a multimeter it's very helpfull to ensure power is getting to the motor connecters, when you pull the trigger. This will tell you if the problem is the trigger assembly or eliminate it as a suspect. Hope this helps

No just for the motor...ensure that the polarity hasn't been reversed in your wiring as well...and on your battery's connector.

Especially if this is a "custom" gun...there are idiots everywhere.

Thanks a lot!

The motor doesn't respond so I guess I found the problem. I'll try with a new one.
Also, I didn't think of using a multimeter, thanks for that tip.
