When to use a Bore Up Kit

I have an RPK with an upgraded inner barrel of 590mm (6.03mm)

The stock was much shorter so I'm wondering if i need a bore up compression set to support this barrel?

I have read that anything below 600mm 'shouldn't' need a bore up kit. The stock cylinder is also a full cylinder with no ports. I have added a sorbo pad (and Neo pad) to the cylinder head so getting less air volume as it is with that addition.

thoughts?

You don't need a bore up kit for PSG1 length barrel. Regular non ported cylinder will also work fine. That's exactly what I have in my RPK for past few years. Don't know anything about sorbo pads, so no comment on that.

Depends on your FPS and rounds you're trying to shoot.

The higher the FPS and heavier the round, the more it requires additional volume.

Bore up kit isn't required. You use them with barrels longer than 590mm, and are also pushing in excess of 420fps.

The minimum strength spring you can use with a bore up kit, is a Systema M120S, or equivalent. (Note: The Systema M120S is different from the standard M120. The power output should roughly be about 420fps with the M120S.)
