shimming gears correctly? Using systema hellical gears

I'm using systema Helical gears and it came with 6mm metal bushings with propor instructions on shimming it correctly. The problem i have is my mechbox uses 7mm bushings. I had to use my own judgment shimming them.

This week end my tappet plate broke. I'm wondering how that happened i couldnt figure it out.

Anyone have a 7mm shimming guide?

Shimmintg can only be done properly by using own judgement. If you use a different mechbox than what the guide assumes you are using, it can fuck you up. Different brand of bushings, same thing.

Tappet plate could have broken for reasons separate from shimming (stock G&P tappet plates break because they feel like it, no other reason), or it could be because of shimming. Buy a new tappet (you need one anyways) and run it as is. If it breaks as well, there is something else going on in your gun, if it doesn't break, then your present one was a POS anyways.

BTW, what gun?

Your shim stacks may have placed your gear set riding on a plane higher than normal, and caused the sector gear to press the tappet plate against the gearbox shell. If your gears are free moving, take out a common denominator of shims from the lower stacks.

There are no specific shimming "guides" available, and even the shimming diagrams all come with a warning (almost always in Japanese) stating something along the lines of: "This diagram is to be used only as a reference guide. Your specific gearbox setup may require some fine tuning. Installation to be done by expert only."

Any generic shimming guide should work for yours.

Google "aeg shim guide"

As stated above shimming needs to be done by feel there is no proper guide. I recently came across a 7mm bearing gearbox where the bearings were riding way to high and interfering with the selector plate. I was able to dremmel the bearing surface down enough that it still functioned but would not interfere with the selector.

The only tappet breakage that I have encountered so far IS a G&P.
I use the samem shimming technic on all mechbox I work on.

6mm shimming is the same as shimming a 7mm or 8mm bushing gearbox, its just the diameter of the bushing, nothing more.
when your shimming, always test to see if your tappet plate moves freely when reassembled, makes sure your gears dont touch anything they shouldnt
