Modify MODULAR GEARS
Well folks, I am sad to say that I am not impressed with the modular gears.
After seeing them online, I thought they were a great idea. When I got them, they looked good. Kit came with a great anti-reversal catch that had an e ring to hold the spring in place and a slot at the top so you can release the spring from outside the box. Simple but brilliant. It also came with a special grease for the bushings. You plant the bushing sleeves in the usual holes, lube them up and drop in the gears. Super easy. HOWEVER. Using several different pistons, spring guides and springs, I can not get these gears to crank more than 20 shots before they lock up and refuse to release the piston from full draw. Most of the time, it locks on the first crank. They are speed gears and I'm running a 400 fps spring but still, they should work. I now have to buy another set of gears. Crap. In the last few months, I have had nothing but problems with the majority of the parts I've used from new manufacturers. Deep fire, Mad Bull and now Modify. Thumbs down to modular gears.

To be fair to Jugglez, these MAY have been faulty gears and I WILL update this thread once I have tested another set. Until then, consider the jury to be out. Jugglez has a GREAT reputation and I'm sure he would not intentionally sell an inferior product.

Age Verification Removed Due To Trade Dispute

Deep in the bush just installed a set of these gears into a reinforced King Arms 7mm mechbox for his G-36, and they run like a charm. No problems yet and we fired off a full mag in his basement last night. I would think that you just got a bad one, Schwag.

I think so. I'm in touch with modify to try to rectify the problem.
Good to hear that Don's are working well.

I'd just like to add that the 7mm sets will NOT fit inside of Classic Army 7mm reinforced gearboxes. There is far too much "extra metal" in the rear of the gearbox, an area which is hollow in the TM boxes. The amount of labour it would take to mill/grind out the gearbox would not be such an issue, except for the fact that CA also decided to add extra material around the gears, too, including raised areas on the inner face of the gearbox shell. Without a way to plane flat the interior "channels" of extra material, (ie: a home mill), it's simply too much work to even consider worthwhile. It's less effort to buy a different set of gears, or a different gearbox shell.
