CA249 problem

I have isolated the problems. Seems like the tappet plate doesn't like to return to battery.

Only change has been systema helic gears.

Anyone else have problems with this gear set?

Going to try to change to a new plate and see it that helps.

you may have shimmed it improperly, try moving shims from one side of the sector gear to the other.

Could have ripped the hook off the tappet as well. The CA M249 that I've worked on over the years (Apoc insists on an over 400fps spring in it, even if he has to keep replacing parts) had the hook ripped off the tappet before it started it's meal of two pistons within a few hundred rounds. Standard V2 tappet works fine in it. If it's not the problem, oh well, you learned that it CAN be a problem, especially with a 9.6V battery and heavy spring.

I run a stock TM spring and 7.2 volt battery.

And it was shimming.

Hell, I've seen the limits of some fields, AEGs 400fps, support weapons 450fps, and sniper rifles 500fps. It ain't uncommon to have a high fps support weapon. Not sure exactly why they'd allow higher, unless it's what Ibby said, longer range to make baddies run for cover.

I'm no engineer but I read somewhere on these forums that fps and range have little to do with eachother. Something about AEG being only smooth bore rifles and that somehow means range and fps become less related.

Anyways my M249 uses a 110% spring. I'm more than happy with my 350 fps + tightbore.

They actually do relate to each other, but not in the way that people expect it to. Hard to explain, but they are closely related. If you consider a 280fps gun vs. a 400fps gun, with same ammo and hop up set for that ammo/wind conditions, the higher fps gun will out range the other. Of course, the exact way they relate is effective range vs. maximum range. Lower fps guns get reach the "floating" part of the trajectory earlier, where the hop up is largely carrying the BB. Higher fps guns will give more thrust which carries the BB farther before reaching that 'floating' state.

That being said, a stock weapon with nothing more than a V3 gearbox, new cylinder set, hopup rubber and spring guide, shooting 300fps can get pretty incredible range. The main factor is really how fast you want your bb to get there lol

I've actually got some witnesses of my 365fps MP5 getting BBs past 200ft easily (using 0.28g BBs of all things), and it's literally only got a Guarder hop up rubber and Prometheus 110SP spring in it.
