I've always been rather curious why a lot of the C8SFWs are setup with the carry handle on the rear top rail and EoTech on the forward RAS. Any specific reasoning aside from co-witnessing with the iron sights?

I think the main reason is because there wasnt really a good BUIS issued (the one issued was plastic and fragile and was designed to go with the elcan (it fits in the lil space created by the base of the elcan)
So to have an iron sight the carry handle was the best readily available option.
On a side note youll notice alot of the cary handles will have the middle section of the base cut away (to save weight i assume) ive even seen photos with holes drilled in the top of the handle (i mean more then just the one existing one).
Unless of course they make handles with the cut out section and extra holes. Then never mind lol but im prety sure they wer modded at the request of the operator.
Edit. I see there are handles without the lowwer section in the middle but the holes in the top im sure is a mod.

The weight thing kinda makes sense. Ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain.

Take note that some of the older uppers had integrated carrying handle sights. Im guessing without the availability of flat top railed uppers, they used what they had, mounting their eotechs further forward onto the RAS which were available.

ex)

Whether or not these uppers are still in service, im not too sure of (too lazy to comb through all the different pictures) but what we can be quite certain of is that the practice certainly outlived it's necessity. Why? Faster target acquisition. The further up your mount your reddot/holosight, the faster/easier it is for you to pick up and track that reticule and place it on target.

Even without the carrying handle, it seems this practice of forward mounted eotechs has trickled into other units like the CSOR

Appreciate the info. I actually got an answer from somebody with "insider info" on the subject. Has to do with many of the C8SFWs simply being handed to soldiers/operators in that configuration and some guys simply prefering to use them in that fashion, co-witnessing sights, personal preference, the list goes on. I was also told that many CSOR/JTF members carry two different uppers for their platforms; CQB and mid/long length uppers for operational needs and both are configured to the operators personal preference, although that part is pretty common for any operator to do. Ultimately the configuration is personal preference in the end. Learn something new every day.

The older, non-removable, carry handle thing makes perfect sense though. I have seen some photos of those older model ARs with an EOTech mounted on top of the carry handle. Seeing THAT made my head hurt. These weren't photos of operators though, at least I don't think so.

I think it may be mk46 or another m249 with upper rail interface.

Hey guys! During listing the forum and searching completed kit on JTF2, I didn't found any other vest except Paraclete HPC/SHPC. So, I have question, do they use any another vest? Like an LBT 6094 maybe...
Thanks in advance.

Is that what they have been wearing all along even few years ago for their "black kit"? I mean, if you look up on those youtube videos of JTF2, they were seen wearing RAV vest + a black suit. Was that really the one?

Why wear dry suit if not in water? Ever try CQB wearing dry suit?
