technically airsoft WAS in a legal gray zone, generally accepted by us, and CBC (not sure now many people here *ahem* would bother to take their advice) as legal to own, but illegal to import.
Now with that safesoft stuff, there's still a higher price for CDN guns, and hopefully it will lower with time, but they can import it somehow, and I don't see why that wouldn't serve the purpose fine since it's not that big of a mark up, but most importantly the law cleared up dramatically, although I don't know what's behind this haze, perhaps someone else can elaborate.
Or you can wait for a good deal on the classified, I've seen quite a few recently

Indeed, no legal requirement, just "common sense requirements". That means out of public sight at all times and a gun case/bag between house -> car, car -> field, etc.

I personally use a locked hard guncase, but it's down to what you prefer.

Short answer: "It's complicated". It's a the gray zone. CBSA says "it's illegal", RCMP says "it's complicated, so we don't do anything". And for us, it means that by the time it's in country, be responsible with it, and it's legal.

Have the laws changed since when these posts I mentioned were posted? Or am I just really confused?
Its natural to be confused as there are MANY contradictions, misnomers and general confusion not only from airsofters but from Law Enforcement agencies, law makers. From the very bottom to the very top. It seems no one can seem to agree with one set of laws, rules and regulations and airsoft isn't on anyones high priority list of issues to deal with unless used in the commission of a crime and the soccer moms pull out the bullhorns calling for a ban on the baby-raping-bunny-killing-youth-damaging airsoft guns.

There are no set rules for transportation and storage but it looks better on one if they treat them as if they are real firearms. Being a hunter and PAL owner you are already familiar with these standards. If you choose to do so its your choice, but remember the most important thing is to minimize those who set eyes on your new found toys. If for whatever fucked up reason a LEO stops you while coming from/going to a game and have airsoft guns, barring irrationality and you show that you have them locked and secured its just one more check mark in your bank against him/her.

Glad to see that your reading man. All noobs should take notes from Sparky here, and understand why we would without hesitation help him with any question he has without snarky remarks or rehashed grudgingly written posts telling you to search for yourself. You show you make the effort and you will have nothing to worry about.

Look forward to seeing you on the fields Sparky!
