Syn...I'm sure that what you're doing is really cool...but I don't understand any of it.

I just hook 2 fans up in parallel and connect it to a 9v battery, with an ON/OFF switch interrupting one of the power lines.

A new battery lasts about all day (i.e. I've never drained a new battery at a game, even when it's been on for most of it) and even with 2 fans (the ones from Active Surplus) they're really quiet. Just loud enough to know that it's on, but not distracting or audible to anyone else.

I've seen Don's momentary switch setup...is that what you're doing?

I just like modding stuff I guess. But its good to hear Active has quiet fans. What size are they? THe 25mm square?

Yes DonP is the man! His link is in the first post. It's not rocket science, by any means , but these little electronics project sure are fun. I also got the 3 round burst from DonP and it is great and useful. I hate full using auto with a 50round mag. If you program it, it can even do double taps with one trigger pull.

Yup, 25mm square...can't recall the thickness

The 3rnd burst is awesome! Everyone that I've installed one for loves it. 10 pulls and you're done your real cap...easy to keep track of.

They'll have it someone where junk pile. Cost like 3 bucks. Once you go to active surplus you will never buy any electronic part without checking if they have it first.
I travel to this shop about once a month. It is a cornucopia of stuff for ASers.

What hapens if I mount a computer fan controller to a fan that I have. I know it works via variable resistor but does this just heat up or drain the 9V instead of turning it off?

I just need a good fan so I can mod some electonics to it. Can't justify 25USD for a single fanz when I can get a good fan for $8.75+$2.5~$11. With the money I save can buy any extra fancy parts but I already have a bunch of small caps, resistors, wire, and shrinkhose. So really don't need anything else except possibly thr 39cent 9v battery clip or possible a smaller pushbutton switch than I have.

I think the fanz is good if you have no soldering experience and want a ready to go kit or and don't like to mod things, fiddle, and learn, but I do. Thats what makes it fun.
Good point. I am the seller of the FANZ and the idea was to make a simple kit to install and remove on most masks. No messy wires with cheap 9V connectors or on/off...Our kit is as you mentioned made for players wanting to keep it simple.
