I agree with the coyote brown part. Would look pretty cool too.

Soldiers from each of the Reg Force Infantry Battalions and a couple other units(Other Combat Arms, Sigs an some Reservists) were sent. I don't know the guys who were sent from some of the other units, but the ones my Battalion sent have been to Afghanistan twice an know their sh*t.

Well at least 2 guys know some sh*t then! Just an observation i made well watching the clip shown, they seemed inexperienced to a certain extent.

I just would like to see a decent decision made on new gear this time, and not made by people who are completely unaware of the options that have bloomed in the last 1o years. I realize it is difficult to keep up with so many companies launching new products & variations these days, but our decisions on gear & equipment have always been suspect to me.

This should be good as they got a lot of experianced Combat vets as part of the testing.

Don't base your oppinon on these Soldiers just from a short video clip.

Already they've come a fair bit. I think my tour was one of the first to trial different rigs, people put in their thoughts on them aswell at the end of the tour all of us that were "outside the wire" had to fill out a form asking what non-issue gear we had, if we liked it, etc An a lot of those rigs were part of the vests, chest rigs, etc brought in for this lil trial an from there some of those models were picked an will be trialed/tested/evaluated from the next couple of Rotos to Afghanistan.

Oh my god. I'm glad we're starting to get some new Tac vests.
I wore the standard one overseas and I regretted it.

Now, if someone asks me what I think of the current issued tac vest, I tell them: it will probably get you killed overseas.
I had to "rig" all kinds of extra pouches and what not to it. (It looked really ghetto LOL).

Next time I go over i'm going to buy my own kit :P

K, I'm not a fan of the current tac vest either but that is BS. Lot of guys have worn that tac vest(Infantrymen, etc) an made it back home. No matter what chest rig, vest, etc you have isn't going make you invincible or make you any safer fromRPGs, IEDs, etc.

Yup, an the 1PPCLI Kitshop in Edmonton already carries the coyote brown line of MAVs an MOLLE tac vests, etc

An now 1PPCLI Kitshop didn't just get TT gear, they've carried TT gear for atleast a couple years now.

Curious if CP Gear, Dropzone or Tiger Tactical are in there anywhere.

None of the above

There was also a list of approved companies to buy gear from for TF 3-09 an none of those companies were on the list.

I'm surprised they wouldn't invest in-country.

CP Gear is still new an they had some things that troops didn't like on the MoFOCR(which CP Gear has now fixed). Like I said on my tour we filled out forms asking what rigs we used an if we liked it, etc an companies like HSGI, Tactical Tailor were more popular an more used. The OMLT on my tour pretty much all had the TT 2 piece MAV with x harness.

Personally I'm happy they are finally looking at US Companies, etc that have been around for awhile and are actually used/liked by the troops. Thing to wait out an see is when the Military finally picks a rig that will become issue to everyone if they will just contract it from the original company(ex Tactical Tailor) or if they will get a Canadian Company to produce it.

Not gonna lie, I would like to see the contract go out to a Canadian company, but I think its best to get a well established company with a great track record, then some start up company that used to make lampshades ext.

Just had a discussion with someone from DLR. For what will be a lucrative contract, it would be preferred that the new rig be Canadian-built as opposed to giving that money to a foreign company. It wouldn't look good to give megabucks to an outfit in Australia, you know. Once the results from the trial have come in a SOR will be written and bids will be sent to industry.

It’s great to see the troops’ load carriage issues being addressed but there’s still a lot of work, hand-wringing, and teeth-gnashing to be done. Take something as simple as the attachment system itself for example. Are they going to go with MALICE clips? Is the CF willing to pay for the license to use the MOLLE system? If not, will we have to develop our own attachment system? How many rigs are we going to buy? To whom will they be issued? Who will this new rig cater to? If we go with a COTS design, how much are we willing to pay for the license to produce it? What are we going to do with the old CTS vests? Etc, etc.

Buying COTS sounds great and all but unfortunately there are logistical, political, and policy-driven forces at work here. It is changing, albeit slowly. Sad, but that’s the nature of the beast.

Whatever rig we end up with, it had better be RIGHT because we can’t keep having to get a new rig every time we go to a new TO.
