I had my CA G36 side by side with a 1 year old Echo 1 and a 1 month old JG G36. Quite honestly, there's not a whole lot of difference visually except a touch more shine on the E1 and JG... Seam lines were about the same on all.

In terms of durability, I would go for CA all the way. To me, there's no comparing the 2. But really, for the price it would cost to get a CA replacement body in Canada, the minimal cosmetic difference wouldn't be worth it.

Now, if the OP has an older model, there may be more shine. I've compared my older JG MP5 to the newer models, and the finish on the plastic is much shinier on mine. This may be the case on his G36.

In the end, replacing all the externals with CA would be an improvement to the gun - assuming you could even get the upper receiver in Canada. However, considering the initial cost of the JG plus the parts, the resulting gun would be a CA with JG internals that cost more than buying a brand new CA G36. That's the biggest reason I say it's not worth it. If you want a CA, sell the JG and buy a CA. It'll be cheaper in the long run and be a much better gun.

The JG looks and feels pretty much the same as the CA. It's a waste of money IMO.
I don't know about that. I couldn't stand my old JG. The look of cheap ABS plastic looks completely different and feels completely different from nylon fibre. You can tell even from a couple of feet away.

The texture, shine, sharpness of edges, everything is quite visibly and tacitly different. The ABS G36s also feel less sturdy and tend to creak and wobble more than nylon fibre ones. JG to CA is night and day. The OP is right, the JG feels and looks like a toy.

CA doesn't make the best externals for G36, Army Code does, but that's out of production. Having an Army Code and a couple of CAs here though, the material is basically the same. The Army Code feels a bit crisper in molding. The only real difference is realistic trades.

I am always amazed by CA quality that no other companies ever match. I have a JG Mp5 here and I've replaced almost all the externals with CA parts. Just got in a CA cocking tube today. Yeah, it was kind of expensive but the JG parts were driving me mad.

I think it may have something to do wiht the age of the guns. The E1 and JG I compared it too were brand new models - one from last year and one from a couple of months ago. I think maybe they changed the externals or something on more recent models, as there was very little difference between my CA and the JG. My JG MP5 is all CA externally now except the lower receiver, and the plastic on that is very shiny and toy-like compared to the CA parts. As I said, I compared my MP5 to newer JG and the external finish is quite different.

Thanks for all the advice! I guess the best route is to sell my old G36 and buy a CA. How much will a JG G36 fetch?

If it's in good condition, probably $300... maybe $350.

I'm guessing I gotta be AVed before I sell stuff on the classifieds? I got AVed a week ago. Does it really have to take 3 weeks to gain access to the classifieds?

It doesn't have to. Thats just usually the max. If by next week your status isn't updated contact your AV'er and see if your name is in the next batch of updates. You may have just been forgotten, or you just have a longer than usual wait, or you got denied AV status for whatever reason. And yes you can't sell anything until you get AV'ed. Technically stating that you were gonna sell might be an intractable offense, so Id reconsider changing your post, or at least making sure no one without AV status tries to buy it off you.
