Thats a 6.02mm, isnt that a little tight for a crap gearbox/crap gun like an aftermath kraken ak?
I'd be using KSC .20g BB's (or my .20 BB Bastard's)

<3 I appreciate it. I'll see if its useable.
For everyone else: Would a 6.02mm barrel be too tight for a kraken gearbox?

the tighter the bore will not really be affected by your crappy box. using crappy BB's with a 6.02 would be your limiting factor. |

I don't see how the inner diameter of the bore has anything to do with the mechbox...and vice versa. From a technical standpoint that is.
Re. if it's worth trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse...well, it's usually not. But it's fun trying sometimes If it makes you smile, go for it. Depends on what you want to achieve....if it's great accuracy, the consistency of the mechbox and the FPS out of it is the determining factor. If it's durability, then it's the quality of the components. Sub par mechboxes rarely have either of those two traits. You'll need a bore up kit for sure...I don't know how long a barrel you can go with one of those (i.e. how much longer than 650mm). Jugglez (airsoftparts.ca) is just awesome to deal with...ask him, he might know or can message the factory and ask them. |

Alright.
Well, my gearbox is stock. And AFAIK the stock kraken gearbox shoots ~380fps with .20g bb? (And yea, I've dealt with jugglez before. I bought my silencer from him. Fast shipping!) Here comes a slight alternative to a most common question. Are there any modifications that I should do to my stock gearbox other than a bore-up kit, when I buy this barrel? (I'd rather know, so I don't risk like destroying my gun somehow.) And, I'm debating if the 705mm inner barrel would be a good choice. I'm debating because, measurements of my silencer and innerbarrel of my gun could be off, and I don't want the 705mm inner barrel to stick out past my silencer. It'd look kinda tacky. I do appreciate all the help guys, as I've been wanting to ask these questions for a while now.

A few points after reading this thread:
Short high-quality barrel > long cheap barrel. I would buy a shorter prometheus barrel over a longer barrel by just about any other band. Buying a long barrel tight-bore, then using .20s defeats the point. If your going for accuracy, use at least .25s. I would aim for .28s probably. If you want to increase your accuracy, Hop-up rubber should be priority over a new barrel. Guarder clear+SCS is a winner in my books. Lastly, I have always really felt long barrels are over-rated. I built my first AEG with one, thinking accuracy was king. Then i played my first game, and realized that the minor accuracy increase was not worth adding this big cumbersome tube on the end of my already long rifle.

@LOVE: That is a TM AK47 lowcap magazine - it's really quite simple to mod it into a shorty.

lol and theguy is correct. use .25's at the least. they cost the same as .2's so why not? but, you'd be happier if you aim to use .28's. |

I am trying to improve accuracy, but not by much. (My kraken already shoots decently. I'm making this gun more for looks. Gaining accuracy would be nice but if I don't, its not a big deal (aslong as my BB's dont hit the inside of the silencer.))
Mind you, I could always just leave the barrel the length it is stock, and get a new hopup rubber. So then I'd have accuracy, at a fraction of the price. (Again, aslong as my BB's dont hit the inside of the silencer.) Basically, my gun right now looks pretty sweet. But, I'm worried about the stock innerbarrel since I have a 25cm/250mm silencer threaded on. (I'm worried about BB's hitting the inside of the silencer, since there is all of this free space. @Coach: Would you say that's a pretty good gearbox at that price? Would a drop in gearbox be more expensive?

that is a drop in box. alternatively, you could build one for less but it's more work unless you are familiar with working on them. V3's are easy so ya, I would build one personally.
as long as your inner barrel comes close to the threading on your outer barrel/silencer, I wouldn't worry about BB's hitting. since you want to use a TB and a better hopup sleeve you'll be getting the BB's to go a straight as it can. all you need to worry about is any IB wobble in the outer barrel. easy enough to shim with a bit of tape. wrap rounds of tape on the end of the TB inner until it doesn't move inside the outer. |

If you want the silencer asthetic, thats your call, but as I said, I Highly recommend you play with it a couple times before you start adding stuff.
For me, short barrels are worth their weight in gold, I love the mobility/pointability it gives me. Secondly, Leave the gearbox stock until it breaks. I wouldn't even open it. Unless you really know what yours doing, you will do more harm then good by opening it. If you have a couple bucks to throw at it, I would buy a hop-up rubber, an SCS, maybe a couple mags, and then save for a better rifle. Not matter how many parts your put into it, a kracken is still a kracken. By the time you replace enough components to make it comparable with a high-end rifle, you would be better off just buying a CA or G&P

Well, right now I'm using the stock barrel. It goes all the way up to the start of the silencer, obviously. I just noticed something. Even when threading on all the way, the silencer can wobble up and down. I'd imagine thats because the krakens threads arent a full circle. Theyre like:
.._ ( _ ) EDIT: Theguy makes a good point. Maybe it is better to leave it to be asthetic for now. Until I game more, or become AV'ed and buy a better gun. (Yes, I am 18. 19 in june). As, I don't wanna shove alot of money in this, and find out that I could have gotten a way better one for less money. Spend more, upgrade less. Spend less, upgrade more. Right?
