Ok, I'm having the same issue here, debating if I should go for these:

SRC G36K - I like the carbine sized rifles most. 360-380 FPS stock
SRC 416 10D - 400 FPS stock
SRC / KWA G36C - Nice compact size for indoor play 360-380 FPS stock
KWA M4 S-System - 410 FPS stock !!!

I do intend on replacing the G36K scope with the G36C rail.

These are all within my price range, so what I want to know is:

SRC vs KWA for replacement parts, body kits (if I would like to replace SRC 416 lower with metal or the KWA M4 S-System lower with metal.. which is easier to get?

G36's shoot around 360-380 FPS stock.. will this affect my game to the point were I would rather have 400-410 FPS?

Will the stock barrel length of the G36K make a difference over the Stock barrel length of the G36C ? Distance? Precision?

I think that is all for now.. I am strongly leaning towards the SRC 416 because of high FPS and I rather its looks over the M4.. But extra details about the other guns is welcome, I liek to debate PROs and CONs.

FPS limit for outdoors is usually around 400 and indoors is about 350 so 410 would be to high. I would go with a G36C/K they have a better gearbox design which lasts longer and is easier to upgrade(Version 3 which is better then Version 2 in M4's).

In that case, switching to .28 or .30 gram BB's is a good alternative?

This summer I plan on playing mainly outdoors, and in winter, indoors. Unfortunately for now my budget allows the purchase of 1 AEG..

FPS is measured in .20 always doesn't matter what ammo you use on the field(usually) but it has to come in under 400 FPS with .20 to be aloud to be used.

Ok, I see, but to be honest, that doesn't really matter, I play on a private field/land with no FPS limit, we have a sniper who shoots at 415 FPS with .28 gram BB's.. we don't really care about that. so.. I actually just wonder how much of a difference 400 FPS compares to 370 FPS.. in terms of accuracy and distance..

Snipers are different, if you are certified sniper and have completed the clinic you have up to 450 FPS if it's a BA or a DMR that isn't able to fire full auto. Between 370 and 400 FPS i wouldn't expect much of a difference in accuracy/range, they both really comes down to the quality of the internals(My 97B is the most accurate gun i own and is better range/accuracy then my buddy's G&G M16 while there is a huge gap in FPS(50) and barrel length at about 200mm difference)

In this case though this does not apply, since we're a closed private group and play on our own private property, no need for certification of any kind.. just saying so that you know..

By the way, are they're guns like yours available in the Classifieds? I took a look at Real Sword and was pretty amazed at the level of realism their models have..

I'd be looking for a very realistic looking HK G3A4 or STEYR AUG A3.. and just wondering how much $$ those are approx..

Why all the talk about FPS?

FPS is a measure of how fast the BB moves. NOTHING more. It has no bearing on accuracy or how "good" a gun is. A well built and tuned AEG shooting 330 FPS with good BB's and hop-up will be far more accurate and outrange any "average" gun anyday, regardless of what its FPS is. Besides, the "sweet spot" for most properly tuned AEG's for range and accuracy is around 360-380 FPS, not 400+.

Out of the guns you listed, I'd personally go with either the G36k or the 410, simply for barrel length. The G36 series is also incredebly easy to work on and uses a V3 mechbox, whereas the 416 and M4 use a V2.

This is a question, not an argument ( i do thank you for your insight, I am a noob and so need to be corrected on some pre-conceived wrong ideas )
..but the faster the BB's fly the less they'll be affected by wind, maybe I am jsut taking this too far.. its just my impression, not stating a fact, don't take it that way please!

thanks

To an extent you're correct... but there's a couple of other factors at play.

1: Weight of BB has FAR more impact on stability in wind than FPS.
2: Quality of BB has FAR more impact on stability in wind than FPS.
3: Quality of hop-up has FAR more impact on stability in wind than FPS.
4: Quality of barrel has FAR more impact on stability in wind than FPS.
5: A BB is a sphere.. sphere's are terrible shapes for aerodynamic stability.

Most BB's start the downward stability spiral once you get over 400 FPS. This is why you need a VERY well tuned gun to gain any meaningful advantage of high-fps setups. Most people who have nice 400+ setups that are both accurate and consistent have spent a good deal of coin on the right parts to do so.

In the 360-380 range, you can have a nice accurate gun with a T/N barrel (tightbore) shooting 0.28 BBs with a good hop-up.

If FPS was the main thing determining accuracy, than all the crappy china guns would be used as DMR's and sniper rifles.

Good to hear for once. Not like other noobs (usually minors or the odd 18+ "frat boy") who when we tell them their preconceived notions are wrong they either don't listen and throw a hissy fit or continue to think like their original way even after we prove it with anecdotal and "scientific evidence" (not really scientific but people will do a "test shoot" and show their groupings a la this "review" here of the TM Hi-Capa 5.1 (Original review here if you're interested))

Search, Ask Questions (if you've done the search and need clarification or can't find anything) and Learn from what others say (and it should be a general consensus as well not like one or two "outlier cases" or kidiot noobs telling you things) don't ask a question to reinforce your own possibly wrong notions and disregard what we say if it doesn't mesh with your own notions.

My last words; looks like you're going to fit well into this community. You're patient and ask somewhat thoughtful questions.

Well.. Thanks, and yeah, I know how ppl can be.. I've left many forums over the years because I found lots of ppl act like assholes when they are sitting behind a computer desk.. I really try to be different and do my part to keep forums as this one very friendly and informative. Its the least I can do for getting free help..

By the way, would you (or anyone else) know a good source/reviewer/article(s) that speak about the basics of Airsoft Gearbox mechanics? Like: what the heck is the difference between a V2 and V3 Gearbox? Naturally one is better, but I always like to know why & receive some sort of explanation.. And maybe have some sort of basic guide that explains what I should look for in a AEG.

Thanks again...
