These things just get more and more appealing.
What is the possibility of swapping out the rear sight block with a Dboys or real-steel one? |

As for the gas block, the front retainer for the upper hand guard is actually cast as part of the gas block for some unknown reason. This means you can't field strip it, or easily replace it with a Dboys wood handguard. I tried and I cut off the metal bits on the dboys handguard and the measurements are ever so slightly off. It fits but looks bad.

Hanguard Swap... on this thing would be a PITA due to how they put it together
the front end does not take down like a real AK AT ALL ... Front sight assembly,Gas block and fore-barrel extension are cast as 1 piece and must be removed to take off the handguards. I expect that any replacing handguard would need substantial modification to fit.

Hopefully RA-Tech follows thru with their wood handguard. I guess if it's custom made specifically for this particular AK, the fit should be perfect without the need to mod.

I've tried my CYMA wood handguards, same thing. I can make them fit, but it looks like shit...

WTF the wood is the wrong shape (has no indents up top where the upper and lower hg meet) and I DEFY YOU to find a real AK-74U with a wood pistol grip. They had plum polymer or "bakelite."

their pistol grips were always plastic, I don't think they ever made and 74us with wood pistol grips BUT there were wood handguards both with no holes and with (though i think the ones with were less common)

For the guys that installed the trigger parts. I can't figure out how the firing pin spring does back in. I searched all over for pics but came up short if you one could help that will be wonderful.
Thanks.

The long end of the spring goes thru the slot in the middle of the firing pin. Put it in an orientation such that the tension pushes the firing pin towards the rear of the trigger box.

Just installed the RA Tech trigger group. WOW. These parts are made extremely well. No machining or filing to fit - everything just fits!
It was a bit tricky getting all the springs in there but it seems to have worked great. If anyone is in need of the stock trigger group parts (to replace broken parts) let me know as mine are unused and I don't plan on keeping them.

Someone should write up installation instructions for trigger and NPAS...
I cant take out stupid pins... is there a trick to it? How much force do I need like... Last edited by ViR; December 23rd, 2011 at 16:48.. |

Most of the pins practically fell out. Make sure you are taking out the pins in the internal trigger pack. Some of the pins on the outside receiver are fake and aren't meant to come out.
Take off the pistol grip. Take off the selector. Then there is ONE pin that will come out to take out the trigger group.

The pins that are supposed to come out will come out easily with little force. Just a quick tap with the hammer and punch. Like what Latvian said, most of the pins you see are fake.
I'll see about putting up an instructional guide for the various upgrades, now that I'm on holidays from work. I should have them up in a few days. |
