EOTech 556 installed!

I have been testing my new toy Hurricane EOTech 556. It is an amazing piece of hardware. Now I am wondering is the front iron sight really needed? Is holo-sight alone sufficient enough for targeting? I am thinking of removing the front iron sight... What's your opinion?

Front sight isn't required with the holosight. But why remove it? if you have an M4, you'll need to get another gas block to hold the hand guards together if you don't have a free float rail.

I,d keep it on never know when your 556 could fail or battery die !

What happens when your EOTech gets shot out, or the battery dies?

It's always good to have BUIS. (Especially with real steel, so if you want to stay "realistic")

get a back sight and then you can use your iron sights as a secondary reference to your holo sight when you need to basically zero in your irons then zero in your holo to your irons and you will be golden

With an M4, I had to replace the front site post "triangle" with a flip-up site/gas block, 'cause I hate having a huge chunk of my site picture blocked by the post. Also, no use in keeping that front site around unless you have some kind of back up or flip-up rear site, as well.

if it were a real EO, the hologram would correct for you so even if it wasn't aligned with the front or rear, it would still be true to zero. since its a repro tho, i would keep the front sight if only as a frame of reference to see how far off center your dot while you are aiming.

that and backups are always a good idea, esp for something that is 1) likely to run out of batteries at some point, and 2) not a real steel accessory so wont hold up to the same abuse. co-witnessing is key to getting your red dot on target. if i had to zero my EO with out irons (at least front) id probably kill myself

i have a real EO on my GBB M4 and i use the triangle front sight. if you are feeling like it (the tringle) takes up too much of your field of view i suggest not looking down the tube until you have acquired your target. hold at a low ready then raise the gun into your line of sight. thats what red dots/holos are designed for, and thats when they give the most speed advantage. you will be surprised how fast you can start tracking the dot.

in fact, i might also add that having the front sight always there has helped me train to always center the dot. every time i shoulder the gun, i can watch the dot "fall" into line with the front post and make corrections if its not lining up. if my sight is off i can put that front post dead center every time which would come in handy if my batteries die in a fight.
