Good TAC vest for newbie?

I'll be ordering my gun in a week or so (if they come in) and in preparation for that I have just ordered the OE TECH Crossdraw vest. I was originally looking at the one they had on sale for $20.50, but they were all sold out and then I saw this one for $45 so I did a google search for discount codes and came up with "Tim" which got me 10% off so for $40 what do you guys think of this vest?

There is a youtube review vid too, if you scroll down

You get what you pay for. That vest is not modular. A lot of people around here use modular vest's or plate carriers because they can be configured multiple different ways. Despite this it really does come down to personal preference. If you want to pay 40$ for a vest and that is the vest you want, go for it.

If I where in your position, I would go out and try some other local guys vest's one. That will give you the best idea of what you want/need/is comfortable for you.

Cheers mate.

I gave the modular thing some thought, but just the vest would be $40 with no pouches or holster and the pistol holster uses an angled molle and the entire back of the vest is Molle, but I know what you're saying, the ability to put stuff like drop bags right where you want. At least I can remove the pistol holster and strap it to my leg if I find myself in need of belly surfing.

I'd buy something better if I wasn't buying a higher end gun plus battery and charger and fatigues and magazines and pistol all at the same time.

Generally...
$40 stuff is crap, it will wear our relatively fast Unless you're a neat guy

What I'll recommand is either use Military Grade Vest, Pantac, or Surplus ones.

Modularity is not important if your new to this. I didnt use modular vest as my first one.

ebaybanned has some cheap vests that aren't too bad. I bought mine for about 100$ and it's a RRVV with all pouches and everything, and it's supposed to be Cordura.

They have cheaper ones also.

Buy the very best gear you can afford.. and buy it once.

This is an excellent rig to start with http://www.skdtac.com/Eagle_Chest_Ri..._p/eag.567.htm

Add a first line rig to this and you are golden for come what may

Make sure your gear is compatible with your rifle mags.
And like it has been said, buy quality and buy it once.
Modular gear can be managed for cheap since you can add whatever you need. You could go with a good plate carrier, like te RRV, and only add as many magpouchs as you need and still keep your setup under 300$. And it will last you a lifetime or be easyer to sell.

Resellability is a key on what you buy. Nobody will buy your busted out 40$ vest if you want to change your gear or drop the sport. an used Eagle Industry vest will always have a taker!

This has come up before as a nice fixed rig that's not too expensive.

I have the Eagle vest that the one you linked to was copied from. It's really nice setup and you can pick up used but in good shape examples on eBay. Until you settle in with what you like in your rig though fixed might not be the right choice. I can't say how nice the one in your link is.

Check out a game and see first hand what kind of setups are out there. Don't forget the classifieds here either. You can steal some great deals for sure.

And last when buying from eBay or abroad watch out of high freight charges, and duty. Some of those will ship in a big box which is a killer, and sometimes you can have duty levied onto the shipment also. Both those can erase your savings.

tacvest mag pouches are terrible, they're way too high, too tight, and if your using a crossdraw and your right handed, the mag pouches are on the wrong side.
You'd best look into a non-modular chest rig, I find they're way easier to work with

I like the mags on my strong side, I just have to reach for them vs. when I have them on my left and have to gimp my arm up to pull one out.
