Rubber Knives and other melee weapons

Kay so Ive yet to play airsoft yet and I was wondering about the usage of rubber knives, how much people use them, if they are worth having and if people maybe throw them or any other interesting usage of them ?

also one person in a thread brought up the idea of rubber katana and someone referenced this http://www.coldsteel.com/bokkens.html
would one of these be worth using in cqb or just a completely ridiculous idea?

just kinda wondering these things cause Im a huge bladed weapon fan (avatar might give that away)

I wouldn't carry anything bigger than a knife. Even the knife isn't practical, its just there for when someone REALLY should have been covering their six. Carrying a 4 foot sword will just get you laughed at. It's worth having because they cost $10, but don't bring a knife to a gun fight and expect to rack up the kills.

I use my knife sometimes, worth the 15 bucks anyways. and the sword i would say is pretty ridiculous but hey, some might see it as fine.

A synthetic training hand-and-a-half? I'm there!

There are a number of existing thread on this topic. Generally speaking, this is airsoft. We have guns for a reason. Rubber knives are often accepted, even encouraged, so long as you remember most people are there to shoot. Kills are generally a simply tap, nothing fancy or potentially dangerous.

People are typically ok with rubber weapons filling a niche, but if you start getting silly and bring swords to events where it's not appropriately themed, you'll probably get laughed at.

I would avoid the sword completely in airsoft, CQB or not. Realistically, you don't see knife kills all the time usually once or twice in an all day event. As for throwing the knife it depends on the players and the host. They are pretty widely accepted but not completely. If the host is cool with it then by all means bring the knife and throw it to your hearts content, obviously be safe with it though. Odds are you'll be out before it leaves your hand though.

Disco said it pretty well, you are basically bringing a knife to a gun fight so don't expect to get many kills.

Im gonna go ahead and stop you right there and say before you even consider buying more stuff, try playing first. Yes opportunities arise to tag a person with your hand should you be close enough, using a rubber knife is just a more complicated way of doing that. Go play first, if you find yourself in a handful of situations where you believe that using a rubber knife is an element you wish to have then go buy one.

You can get kills with throwing gum (I have so anyone can). Try that out sometime.

I was killed by a rubber sword at the Mill at the beginning of the month. He used the long reach to tag me out while staying inside a dark room. Of course we were playing the "gun store" game so nobody had found cash to buy their guns yet.

yeah, Ive heard of guys using em in zombie games, but thats about it. And I am pretty sure it would get in the way of moving around, especially if you were trying to be quiet.
