Upgrade suggestions for G&G M16 RIS
So I just recently got a G&G M16 RIS and a 4x acog. For a starter gun it works great, but I'm a little lacking on the range and accuracy that I'd like for it to be a real designated marksman rifle or something similar.
I'm pretty new to airsoft, so I'm not that familiar with finding the right parts. Any suggestions for what I should all upgrade (I'm assuming most if not all the internals will need it) and what specifically I should purchase so that all the parts work properly together...for reasons I'm sure you can all explain to me much better than I could. Currently shooting around 350fps with .2s (I'd like to upgrade to at least .25s) and I would estimate a range of at around 150ft with a crazy arc on the shot. Any help is appreciated! |

I would first suggest you game with it a bit before upgrading. But... if you can't wait a quick and relatively painless (not to expensive) way to increase accuracy and range is to get a tightbore barrel. These can range anywhere in cost from $25 for a China model to $80+ for a good Prometheus one. Secondly a new hop up rubber and nub will also have some effect. But be advised that these upgrades can/will increase the fps of your gun, and perhaps make it not gamable at certain fields. You should have a chrono on hand whenever you upgrade your gun to make sure it remains within the safe limits.

Thanks!
Yeah, the earliest I would upgrade is the Fall, but I'd like to start thinking now for if I do. I was just browsing around through many sites and google and I haven't yet found a 520mm barrel that isn't already attached to a gun... is it a strange size or have I just not been looking in the right places or googling hard enough? The closest I can find so far is MA 510 or Mad Bull 509. Last edited by Maethori; July 12th, 2010 at 21:24.. |

You are looking for a tightbore barrel not an outer barrel. Basical there is the steel or aluminum barrel that looks like a barrel on a real rifle then there is a barrel inside in which the bbs travel. The inner barrel is what you need to upgrade.
Outer Barrel Inner Barrel The inner one is what you need to change to have any affect on performance, the outer barrel is purly cosmetic. Coincidently this is the best place to get parts in Canada!!!

Ummm....yeah...... my manual still says the inner barrel length is 520mm and I still can't find a 520mm tightbore inner barrel.
However, different sources tell me that the G&G R5 barrel is already a pre-upgraded 6.04mm diameter so would the extra 0.01mm make a really noticeable difference (assuming that those sources were correct)? |

Dude if you barrel is a 520mm and you get a 510 or 509mm barrel its not gonna make a differance. And it all depends on what version of the G&G you have. Some do come with 6.04s and other have a 6.08 or a 6.07. An no a 0.01mm will not make a noticable differance. A better hop up unit and rubber would however.

Strangely enough, the only difference between your Google skills and mine are that I was trying to find one in Canada.
But thanks for the information on the other things. It did help. |
