V2 mechbox from hell
well I've been working on a friends mechbox and its giving me nothing but trouble, and I've finally had to bring it here for advice.
at first I just installed a cylinder set, and then the mechbox cycled 5 times and stopped abruptly, then I notice that this "systema" mechbox has Dboys gears, and the bevel gear has 2 damaged teeth, so I replace it, and reshim it, and now when I fire the gun, it seems to be struggling a bit to turn the mechbox over, and it locks up if it cycles more than 1/2 way before you release the trigger and then try to fire again, but the most confusing part is that after only like 5 test shots the battery and the selector contacts get ridiculously hot, now I'm no electrician, and wiring isn't my strong point, so I'd like to know if anybody else might know wtf? |

Sounds like it is jamming up. The stress is heating up all the electrical components.
I know you are an experienced shimmer but check the shimming for tightness. |

I purposely left the shimming slightly loose for that very reason, and it cycles properly without the piston and spring in, but the piston and spring are the same as before, and I only changed the cylinder, head and nozzle, so I don't know what could have changed to make it stop working now

Well that covers that.
Another problem I ran into once was the piston jamming in the gearbox more as it went back. The gun would half or 3/4 cycle, as you are describing, but the piston would get tighter and tighter until it would jam up. I had to file the shell grooves a little looser. |

Did you replace the gear with one of the same brand?

nope, that was originally my main concern, its an AGM bevel gear with Dboys for the rest of the set, but ofcourse I had to test how well they spun when I shimmed it, and there was no binding at all, this is why I'm so stumped
