Assault charges

Does anyone have any information regarding weapons assault charges with an air soft pistol. My son owns a spring loaded pistol (he is 18),, while he was at school and I at work a friend of his came over and decided to play around with his pistol. The friend accidently shot the mailman through the window. The mailman called the police the house was raided all the air soft guns were confiscated (3 pistols, and 1 rifle ) , the friend is in jail for assault with a weapon. Has anyone ever been charged with something similar,, and what are the chances they will lessen the offence charges?

Pointing a projectile weapon at a person can constitute assault with a weapon, even if it's not loaded.
Not knowing the age of the person, any prior criminal history, the location of the incident, the method in which the guns were stored, or any of the other details, there is absolutely zero point in commenting. Any case is affected by the details, and we don't have them (and personally, I don't want to know them).

Most guys on here aren't going to have experience with this.

The charges facing this person are serious, same charges would be levelled had it been an airsoft gun, a pellet gun or a real gun. He is looking at (best case scenario) some minor jail time, a huge fine and a criminal record. He may get lucky if it is a first offence and get lengthy probation and no jail, along with a fine and a record.

If the prosecutor is a barracuda, he is looking at perhaps up to a year in jail.

He shot the mailman, a civil servant in the performance of his duties. He is in deep shit, and has no choice but to throw himself at the mercy of the court and hope for the best.

in all honesty most of the active members on here arn't really dumb enough to end up in your situation.

now, if he is underage he aint going to jail. if its his first offence, he aint going to jail. if the court system is the same across the country, he aint going to jail. if you let him im your home again, you should kick yourself in the ass! like fuck it was an accident. ive told many o airsofters that were peeing behind there vehicles that it was an accident when i shot them in the ass, its always an accident when you get caught. take care of your shit.

Your son's friend is going to face criminal charges. Also, im curious as to why you are concerned if your son's friend will face charges. Let his family deal with their mess of a son. Perhaps youre not being entirely truthful. Im just guessing here.

Note: Also, how could both of you be not home and his friend coming to visit and staying for a fun game of airsoft.

Any airsoft guns used in a criminal manner (criminal offence) are treated as real firearms.

I think your son's friend just dug a big hole for himself and poured a big pile of shit on himself.

If the airsoft gun is a replica of prohibited firearms (such as AK's and full Auto Armalites etc) he will be charged with additional real firearm offences.
Hes a dumbass and is old enough to have known better.

He wont get any sympathy from me. Ive warned countless parents and kids about this and got nothing but mouth and "w/e we can handle our kids".

I'm asking myself; what are the chance that the one being accused here is the op... or the op friend ?

first of all who opened the door for him? both you and your son is at different location, so how did he get in?
and you reap what you sow,
that is why airsoft demands 18+ to play, its like giving a terrorist the keys to a nuclear bomb
you must be responsible for your actions

if the OP statement is true, wouldn't only the friend would be in shit and not the OP and his son? I mean if the friend is over 18 and he basically broke in and used a firearm with the owner not around, why would the owner be in trouble? The son might be in shit for having the guns not locked up but other than that, why else would he be in trouble?
