2/3AA Cells in an AEG

Hey all,

Putting together my first set of gear, and I've run into a battery question. I want to power a G&G GR16 using a battery pack in the stock, but it's a very tight space (inner diameter 28mm, length 130mm), just a bit too small for standard mini packs. I don't want to tangle with LiPo on my first rifle, so I've been looking around for pre-made NiMH solutions to no avail. I was thinking that I could fit in a custom pack made up of 7-8 2/3AA cells, and the ones I've tracked down for this purpose rate at 800mAh with a max discharge of 10A. Would that be enough to operate the AEG and if so, about how many such packs would I want to make to cover a day's use?

And of course, if there is such a small NiMH battery available somewhere already, I'd like to know about it (I have a knockoff MP7 with a 7.4v/400mAh micro pack that I might be able force in and rig up, but that seems like lot of work for a super weak battery).

Battery stocks are specifically made for mini (2/3 A) or large cells (sub-C).

Your stock will fit at least 2/3 A mini packs.

I may be wrong but I think that 10 A of discharge is not enough.

Unfortunately, I've tried A cells and they're too large for the space I'm working with (inner diameter 28mm, remember, so A cells are too wide at 17mm). I think it was intended to house a LiPo in the first place.

what type of stock does it have? ... I belive that G&G has a "crane" stock .. which is sort of triangular if you lock at it from the back. there is space in the buffer tube, and also in the 2 "tubes" in the stock itself running along side the buffer.

if you get a Crane or butterfly battery pack it will be sectioned and wired to fit cells into all 3 spaces.

and that would be 2/3 mini cells easily ... although with some work.. 4/5 cells MIGHT fit too ..

10A is enough, but only if your using NiCd or NiMH. Remember that NiMH and NiCd packs generally DON'T have enough amperage to run the motor on your AEG, that's why you gain ROF when you switch from an 8.4v mini to an 8.4v large battery. The large battery offers more amperage.
LiPo's are capable of putting out more amperage than required, so switching between a 7.4v 20c 1600mah and 7.4v 20c 4900mah will have no effect on your ROF.

He's talking about a lipo buffer tube.

If you want a battery to fit in the tube get a lipo.

If you want nicd or nimh get a battery stock of some sort.

If you do have a crane stock (battery stock) you need custom batteries for them that are a different shape to fit.

It would be easier to help if we knew exactly what your stock looked like.
