Bypassing the importing laws?

I know that you cannot import replicas legitimate weapons but what if the airsoft gun is based off of fiction and looks like a toy? like such airsoft gun S.T.A.R. IKA ZUCHI Type-0 Mid Range Battle Rifle A.K.A. the Thundermaul by JG.

Anyone have experiences of importing it?

I am only asking because I don't know any retailers in canada who might have it.

Once I get my age verified, I will be able to shop on canadian retailers but who knows when I will become verified.

This thread isn't about the looks or the performance but simply about the importing laws.

Once you get Verified, you'll have access to the Age Verified discussion area, which further discusses the laws on importation.

Until then, sadly mate.. wait it out.

In sum, it's big risky no matter what with something that looks like that.
Hell, a friend had a stick type battery seized as a suppressor once... Interesting story.

If you want to risk sinking the $1-200.. I'd suggest the lottery, it's a better pay-off.

AV'd when? Well it is said to take roughly 2 weeks after meeting with an Age verifer. Now this is a guesstimation and should not be used as a time frame as to how long it takes.

The sci fi stuff is a big no can do.

It doesn't matter if you know that it's not "real". What mattera is that it's based on an actual firearm or looks realistic. The Pulse Rifle from Aliens is not real but it's not getting a free pass for example. Neither are the other items you listed.

Is your statement based on actual laws?

The pulse rifle is not a replica firearm since the definition of replica firearms requires that it be a replica of an actual firearm. Therefore the magic +430 fps doesn't apply.

Since the airsoft pulse rifle shoots below 500 fps it is not a firearm.

An I missing something which would prohibit the pulse rifle from being imported other than customs seizing because it feels like it.

Yes you are missing something, while the pulse rifle is not itself a replica, it is still a replica Thompson. It's just got a bunch of cosmetic modifications done to it! Underneath everything it's still a Thompson.

because it is still an m4 under all that plastic (for the thundermaul) and a M1A1 under that kit (pulse rifle). if i wrap an AK47 in a blanket, its still an AK47.

And there is one thing people need to start remembering. CBSA agents will confiscate anything they feel like, then its on you to prove that you deserve it back, which can take over a year. there are policies in place but not actual law for you to fall back on. if CBSA feels like it, they can change the importation rules.*

*i dont want to get into the details or start an argument about that fact, but what im saying is, there is no charter of rights protecting your right to import whatever the hell you feel like.

Since the last batch of AVing has been done and he still doesn't have his tag, I'd go with too young.

Even the Dragoon is now restricted since it's based on the M4 design. So it's a no can do!

Um.....wut? Underneath is a 6mm tightbore barrel attached to a housing containing a rubber hop up bucking used to create an air seal for a nozzle that pushes out air. Where do you think the term "replica" comes from? It's all cosmetic. So if you modify an M4 airsoft rifle by removing the entire metal chassis and replacing it with a foam nerf gun shell, IT FAILS TO BE A REPLICA OF AN M4 CARBINE RIFLE, irrespective of its origins.

It's funny how everyone thinks they're experts in the law......

I can confirm this, a while back they did make it through but the CBSA, not being staffed by retards, realized that these guns we're just dressed up "regular" guns.

Besides, the Thunder Maul is really a horrible JG M4, not worth the trouble.

Oh, and FYI, we don't "bypass" the law, we work within it. The info on how to import restricted items is mostly in the AV restricted section of the site though. 'Cause, yeah, being AV'ed grants access to the classifieds and retailers but also subforums non-AV people can't see.

This is exactly the kind of topic / subject line you do not want the authorities seeing if/when they were to randomly peruse this forum. The kind folks here are not in the business of helping underage kids smuggle firearms into the country.

As they said ^^

A note: You don't want to "bypass importing laws". You want to know if importing a "sci-fi based" AEG is within importing laws.

"Bypassing importing laws" would be called smuggling, and you probably don't want to do that, right? Right? At least, you don't want to get caught smuggling... :/

Just say no. Don't be cheap. This hobby is expensive. That's the entry fee. If you don't like it go to Walmart and enjoy your plastic shit.

"regular" gun has no meaning. For the purposes of import, it is either a replica firearm (or a variant thereof) or its a firearm.

To be a replica firearm it must closely resemble an existing firearm.

To be a firearm, it must be a barreled device firing a projectile (of a prescribed mass) in excess of 500 fps.

A sci-fi airsoft gun like the pulse rifle satisfies neither of these criteria. so, on it's face there is nothing prohibiting import.

If the cbsa is prohibiting these from import then I'm guessing they are using their discretion and interpretation of the laws. Something along the lines that if receivers are similar than it is a variant of a replica.

500 FPS AND some crazy amount of jules/energy.
Equals out to somewhere in the ballpark of ~700-800 FPS with a .2 BB
