How to "PROPERLY" remove triangle iron sight on KWA M4
Hi everyone, I have a stock KWA M4 and a noob to modifying the guns. What I want to do is remove the front triangle iron sight so that its not in the way of the scope sitting on the main rail.
I was able to take out the flash hider, knock out the pins on the triangle sight and remove it from the barrel... HOWEVER, with the iron sight removed, how should I hold the front end of the handguard in place? And should I remove the silver metal tube that runs above the barrel connecting the body to the triangle sight? Not sure what its called, or what it does... Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated! |

the traingle sight holds the clam shell front end together, that silver tube is a mock gas tube it isn't needed but its nice for cosmetic effect.
you could get a gas block with a built in iron sight or You need something on the end to hold the front end on, unless you are going to put on a rail. |

The silver tube is called the gas tube...in airsoft it does nothing. On a real rifle it transfers gas back to the receiver to drive the bolt rearwards. If you want to keep your rifle looking realistic, then I'd keep it as part of the build.
The front of the handguards are held in place with the front handguard cap. It butts up against the front sight, within which the A/triangle front sight also serves to be the gas block. Typically when you remove the stock A front sight, you replace it with a gas block (which in airsoft doesn't actually do anything) and stick the gas tube into it. Without having something to but up against, the front end cap won't work. Typically when you do what you're doing you'd replace the handguards with a free floating rail system. Some rails, such as the Daniel Defense Mk18, attach to a nut that replaces your delta ring (the part at the rear of the handguards that looks like a gear from a bicycle)...others, such as the CASV, attach to your delta ring and your flat top upper receiver. However you could just use a different gas block (check airsoftparts.ca)...and butt the cap against that. Might look a bit wonky though. |

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Another thought, if I remove iron sight and replace it with a gas block, would it make my handguard wobble or move? The reason I'm asking is because i have a front grip attached on the handguard, and there is a very slight loose wobble left/right for the grip already.

The play comes from how nicely the handguards match up with both the delta ring at the back...and if the front cap moves.
You can cheat with the front cap by drilling/tapping a screw hole through the cap and into the gas block...so in essence your handguards are held in place by the front gas block. This will solidify things a bit...but if there's still play with the delta ring then there'll still be some wobble. If you don't want any wobble...the go for a rail system. And...if you're worried about messing something up or breaking something...then find a gun doc to help you out. It won't take long to do what you want and it'd easier/clearer than a bunch of Q&A on the forum. Also...most gun docs will have spare parts, extra rails or examples of all this stuff on hand...so you can get an eyeball on some setups before you decide what you want to do. Appreciate all the advice. I will give this a try over the weekend and see how it turns out. Thanks!

Some gas tubes index into the delta ring and help snug things up. It's not always a part you can just leave out if you go to a low profile gas block.
