AEG Inconsistent Shooting

I have an Echo 1 st6, and recently my gun has been shooting very poorly. I owned this gun for about 6 months, and I use it about every month for a game. The problem is that some of the shots will go about 10 feet and, some of the shots go there normal distance. Is this a barrel issue or gearbox issue, I'm not really sure because I never had this problem before. Also, I never used bad bbs(BB Bastard) or reused them. Any input is appreciated.

The hop up kind of makes sense because i was cleaning my barrel for the first time, and i didn't realize you weren't supposed to go past the hop up unit. I might of put too much pressure. So i have to buy a new hop up unit or a new nozzle?

Im not fully familiar with that gun. Is it an m4 baisicly?
If so then pop out the rear body pin. Fire one or two rounds in semi and notice if the lil tip on the gearbox that connects in the hop up moves back n forth okay. If it does its not a nozzle issue.
Next is slide the inner barell and hop unit outta the upper reciver be carefull u dont loose the lil spring that rests above the barel on the front of the hop up. Inspect the hop up unit for cracks and such if it is okay hold the barell up to the light and look through it. See if the rubber inside looks torn or damaged. If u cant tell pop the C clip off the hop up unit turn the hop all the way off point the top of the unit downwards so the barrel section of the hop unit is up and the adjustment portion is down and slowly but firmly pull the barrel out of the hop up unit. Inside the hop unit is a tiny lil rubber bit called the nub that rests on the hop arm by holding the unit upside down like i said it shouldda stayed put just make sure u dont drop it out and set the hop unit aside. Now u should have the barrel with the hop rubber and a lil brass ring dont lose the ring either. Inspect the hop rubber for rips and damage u can slide it off the barrel and turn it inside out and inspect the lip that causes hop.

Befor u do that tho tell me did u use silicone lube to clean the barrel? 9r somethin bad for the rubber n plastic bits like wd40 or some solovent? It may be u melted the rubber n plastic or u could have lube on the rubber so mabe just wash it with warm soapy water and reinstall it.

Worse case the hop unit is cracked u need a new unit. They is cheap next worse u need a nes rubber. They are even cheaper.
If the nozzle thing isnt movin back n forth u should probably consult a gun doc to open up the gear box could just be a spring outta place or somethin more serious

So when u look in the hop up unit there is a lil opening that the nub goes into its a bit of a pain to get in. Try tweezers or somethin may help u get it in.
And the hop unit itself isnt cracked or damaged?
And the nozzle moves properly?
The gearbox isnt cracked or anything?
Clean the lube off the hopup reassemble and see how it shoots
The spring was on the front of the hop up unit? Wasnt bent or nothin?

Don't be afraid to take the hop up unit itself apart, it's only a few pieces. That way you can put the nub in easily.

If there's nothing wrong with the unit or rubber, and you cleaned your barrel with silicone oil and pushed the rod all the way through, your rubber has oil all over it.

So whats the rubber part, the Bucking? Is the nub supposed to stick out when you put it back in, or you shouldn't see it when you look down the barrel.

the rubber sock is the bucking, the little cylinder is the nub.

Hope this picture/link works....all the parts are labled well. The only part really missing are the gears and the spring that sits infront (right side) of the hopup arm.

http://blog.zephyrsports.com/tech-blog-hop-up-units/

When your hopup is on...the arm is down...it pushes the nub(bing) into the bucking...and you see a bump protrude down into the barrel.

When your hopup is off...the arm is pushed up by it's spring...it allows the bucking to push the nub up out of the way. Depending on the bucking, you may see just a little bump in the barrel...or nothing at all.

Basically to get the nub into place you can:
Flip the hopup unit upside down and use something small to poke/prod the nub into place (have the hopup off so there's lots of room for it)...slip the bucking and barrel in and replace the C-clip.

or

Strip the hopup unit so that the hopup arm can be lifted clear...insert bucking and barrel, place the nub, replace all the gears/etc... This method is more useful if you're starting with a new hopup unit (most of them come stripped).
