I wonder if people designing these XM8s realize that it is not longer going to be used by the US Army.

they probably know but dont care, its chinese manufacturers were talking about here.

same goes for the people who buy the xm8, they know its not going to be in service but it doesnt matter to them. i just like the looks of the gun and since its based on a g36 its not a full on prototype weapon system. the basic design has been proven.

Its not for sure it won't be the new rifle.

The program is just suspended to learn from lessons in Iraq and Afghanistan and to open the process up to more manufactures.

Far as we know they could still end up going with the XM8. Though probably the odds are not as much in its favor anymore.

according to our team member hawk, who was down in arizona training military support members the art of marksmanship back in september, the word he got from the army was that all prototypes of the xm8 were destroyed by the army and the program was cancelled. as far as i know only the army had the xm-8 and h&k did not build any for anyone else. apparently they are really interested in the S.C.A.R. program offered by FN and that they have taken over h&k's spot in the "let's find a new gun" program. this is just what i heard.

at the moment, i have opened up the internals
after ripping my TM aug apart, the m-box is very similar
the thing i dont like is that there is no motor-cage, so you cannot separate the motor from the mechbox...makes shimming a bit of a pain; but you only need one screwdriver since they cheaped out on the screws they used
=D
btw..stock TM gears need shimming if you want to replace the BE ones..heh
the plastic gears are quieter, but the piston/cylinder are horrible..FAR less compression than stock TM parts; very easily swappable though
however, the gear that draws the piston back has a different number of teeth;
so in my box now i have the TM piston, head, nozzle, spring, guide, piston gear
and it works like a charm
gonna run it to the ground before switching to TM box

For some reason i really dislike the look of an xm8 its so "plasticy". Anyone have similar thoughts with me?

*are there metal bodies for this gun?

if it's the gws kit they give you the outer barrel extension which is about 6" longer than the stock g36 inner barrel. you probably just had an alignment issue with your inner barrel and it manifests itself with bb's striking the flashider.

I read on an army review site that they have decided to stick with the XM8 as the stansard infantry (army/ marines) rifle and the new SCAR will be the special forces rifle, im not sure if the paratroopers were included as special forces

First-time poster here.

Since the XM-8 is no longer in testing (or whichever stage it was in), do Airsoft replicas of it no longer count as replicas of a "real firearm"? I have a factsheet from the Canada Firearms Centre open in another tab, and it says that such models would fall under the category "imitation firearm" as opposed to a "replica firearm", but I can't find any rules regarding those. Could somebody enlighten me?

I got to handle a BE XM8 about a month ago. It's shit, pure and simple. Seam lines, wobbly front end right out of the box, scope that doesn't even have a recticle. Shot pretty good (340 w .2's) but accuracy was horrible. Waste of money.

I'm not sure who made the one I got to look at, but I do know it was an American manufacturer. Thanks for the heads-up though.
